The Garmin in the headline is the Instinct 3, specifically the 45 mm AMOLED version. Tom’s Guide reported it for $349 at Amazon during Prime Big Deal Days on October 5, 2026, but that dated report does not confirm the price is still available on October 7. Garmin’s U.S. product page displayed $349.99 when checked for this article’s source material; that is a separate price observation, not proof of a current Amazon deal.
Which Garmin is the reviewer’s favorite?
Tom’s Guide fitness and wearables writer Dan Bracaglia named the Garmin Instinct 3 his favorite Garmin and singled out the 45 mm AMOLED model as his preferred version. That is his reported preference, not a finding from an independent comparison of watches.
The featured model is Garmin’s U.S. Instinct 3 – 45 mm, AMOLED, part number 010-02936-00. It has a 45 mm case and a 1.2-inch AMOLED display. Garmin lists a metal-reinforced bezel, built-in LED flashlight, multi-band GPS with SatIQ, 10 ATM water rating and compatibility with 22 mm QuickFit bands. Paired with a compatible phone, it can show smartwatch notifications.

Bracaglia’s article presents the Instinct 3 as an outdoor-oriented watch, pointing to toughness, outdoor workout support and the practical value of its built-in flashlight. Those are the author’s stated reasons and use cases; the available evidence does not establish independent test results or a verified ranking against competing watches.
#1 Best Overall
- Make a bold statement with this rugged GPS smartwatch, featuring a 0.9” display with solar charging lens and unlimited battery life with solar charging (assumes all-day wear with 3 hours per day outside in 50,000 lux conditions)
- Engineered with a supertough 45 mm fiber-reinforced polymer case and metal-reinforced bezel
- Built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe modes gives you greater visibility in the outdoors and provides convenient illumination when you need it
- Know your body better with health monitoring features, including wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring, Pulse Ox and more (this is not a medical device, and data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked; Pulse Ox not available in all countries)
- Navigate confidently with a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter and multi-band GPS with SatIQ technology, which delivers superior positioning while also optimizing battery life
Garmin introduced the Instinct 3 lineup in January 2025. In the launch announcement, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales Dan Bartel described it as “the smartwatch you can wear whenever, wherever.” That is the company’s promotional framing, rather than an independent assessment.
What battery life does Garmin estimate?
Garmin’s owner’s manual gives different estimates for the 45 mm AMOLED model depending on operating mode and settings. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed runtimes; Garmin says actual battery life varies with enabled features.

- Make a bold statement with this rugged GPS smartwatch, featuring a vibrant 1.2” AMOLED display and up to 18 days of battery life
- Engineered with a supertough 45 mm fiber-reinforced polymer case and metal-reinforced bezel

| Mode | Garmin’s estimate |
|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode, wrist gesture | Up to 18 days |
| Smartwatch mode, Always On Display | Up to 7 days |
| Battery-saver watch mode | Up to 24 days |
| GPS-only | Up to 32 hours |
| All satellite systems | Up to 25 hours |
| All satellite systems plus multi-band | Up to 23 hours, under Garmin’s stated typical SatIQ assumption |
The display setting makes a substantial difference to Garmin’s smartwatch-mode estimate: the listed maximum is 18 days with wrist gesture and 7 days with Always On Display. GPS use has its own, much shorter estimates, so the smartwatch-mode figure should not be treated as an expected runtime during frequent GPS activities.

What does the 10 ATM rating mean?
Garmin’s manual describes 10 ATM as pressure equivalent to a depth of 100 m. That is the rating’s stated pressure equivalence, not an unqualified promise that the watch is suitable for every kind of diving. Consider the activity and Garmin’s own use guidance rather than interpreting the number alone as dive certification.

Is the reported sale price still a deal?
Tom’s Guide reported that Amazon had the 45 mm AMOLED Instinct 3 for $349 on October 5, 2026, down $100 from $449 during Prime Big Deal Days. Garmin’s U.S. product page displayed $349.99 when retrieved for the source material. These figures come from different sources and observations, and neither establishes Amazon’s price or stock on October 7.
Before buying, check the retailer listing for the exact 45 mm AMOLED variant, color, availability, shipping and checkout price. The reported $349 Amazon price is useful as a recent reference point, not a confirmed live offer. If Amazon no longer shows it, compare the current listing against the reported price rather than assuming the promotion has been extended.

Should you buy the 45 mm AMOLED model?
It is the model to consider if you want the specific Garmin Bracaglia praised and value an AMOLED display alongside the listed outdoor-focused hardware. The sale report alone is not enough to make a buy-now recommendation while its availability remains unverified. Base the decision on the price actually shown for your exact configuration and whether the display, GPS options, flashlight and battery estimates suit your use.
