Yes, the Freedom Phone is still listed for sale on the Clear store: the product page showed a $499 price and an “Add to Cart” button when checked. That listing does not confirm stock, successful checkout, reliable delivery, or ongoing software support. The newest visible product update in the seller’s archive is dated January 5, 2022.
What happened to the Freedom Phone?
Erik Finman’s Freedom Phone business emerged in 2021 with a pitch centered on free speech, privacy, and an alternative app marketplace. In August of that year, ClearCellular announced a technology partnership, describing the phone as a de-Googled device and promising decentralized services. Those were company descriptions and plans—not independent proof that the phone was secure, private, resistant to censorship, or independently audited. ClearCellular’s partnership announcement identified the Freedom Phone as its first brand partner.
The business later changed hands. A federal court case summary says Finman and Freedom Phone Limited sold the phone business to ClearCellular, which is owned by Michael Proper. The parties subsequently disputed matters related to the sale and Finman’s employment. The cited court materials concern motions and procedural rulings; they do not establish every allegation as true or resolve every claim. The case summary provides that procedural context.

The seller’s update archive documents shipping notices on November 25 and December 20, 2021, and January 5, 2022. The November notice said some customers had received devices while others should receive them in the coming weeks. In January, the company said it was working through backorders. These are the seller’s own reports, not independently audited fulfillment figures. No newer product update appears in the archive. The official updates archive contains the notices.

Is the Freedom Phone still for sale?
The Clear store’s product page lists the Freedom Phone for $499 and displays an “Add to Cart” control. Treat that as evidence that the seller presents the device for sale, not confirmation that it is in stock or that an order can be completed and delivered. The displayed price and availability may change. Check the current store listing before making a decision.
The page says the device works with T-Mobile, AT&T, and other domestic and international GSM networks. That broad statement does not guarantee service in every area or compatibility with every carrier plan. Verify the exact network bands and carrier requirements for your location before buying. The seller’s listing is the source for its compatibility claim.

What are the listed specifications?
These are seller-published specifications, not independent measurements of real-world performance. Clear’s product information identifies the operating system as ClearOS Mobile 10. The seller’s product page describes an open-source Android operating system, preloaded apps, and a “freedom first” experience; those descriptions do not establish the device’s present security or privacy protections. See the seller’s product details.

Is it a sensible phone to buy now?
The key uncertainty is maintenance: the available sources do not establish whether the currently listed device has received recent operating-system or security updates. A live sales page and a list of specifications are not evidence of current support. Do not treat the phone as secure for present-day use without current update information and an independent security assessment.

- Ask the seller to confirm that a unit is in stock and that checkout and delivery are available.
- Request the latest security patch date, update policy, and supported software version in writing.
- Confirm the exact cellular bands and carrier compatibility where you plan to use it.
- Check whether the apps and services you rely on are available and supported on the device.
If you are comparing privacy-oriented phones, Purism’s Liberty Phone is a separately marketed product, not a successor to the Freedom Phone. Compare each device’s operating system and app availability, current update support, carrier compatibility, price, repairability, and the evidence behind its privacy claims. Purism’s Liberty Phone page describes that separate product; its price and specifications can change.
