CNBC’s Morning Squawk reported a mixed start to the fourth quarter: the Dow fell more than 4% in September, while the S&P 500 still finished Q3 higher and the Nasdaq outperformed. The newsletter also highlighted Micron’s strong fiscal fourth-quarter results, a limited Google Gemini 4 Argon rollout, Federal Reserve commentary on inflation and an early-stage Eli Lilly weight-loss trial. These are the newsletter’s reported claims, not independent verification of the underlying market data or company announcements.
What Morning Squawk reported on October 1
The accessible full-text version of CNBC’s newsletter is a republication attributed to CNBC Tech. It offers a snapshot of markets and company news, rather than a detailed analysis of the underlying results. The figures and claims below are attributed to that newsletter.
- Markets: The Dow fell more than 4% in September, ending a five-month winning streak. The S&P 500 had its third losing month in four but remained positive for the quarter; the Nasdaq Composite outperformed.
- Micron: The company reportedly beat fiscal Q4 expectations for revenue and earnings, with data-center revenue up elevenfold. Its shares slipped slightly in premarket trading.
- Federal Reserve: Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said inflation remained too high and described the labor market as “pretty good” but not “great.”
- Google: Alphabet reportedly began a limited rollout of Gemini 4 Argon to some cybersecurity partners.
- Eli Lilly: The company said a mid-stage trial of eloralintide combined with tirzepatide improved weight loss compared with tirzepatide alone.
How the newsletter described September’s markets
The “rough month” framing applied most clearly to the Dow, not to every major index or to the whole quarter. The newsletter said the Dow lost more than 4% in September and ended a five-month run of gains. It reported that the S&P 500 also had a losing month—its third in four—but still finished Q3 in positive territory. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed, with Meta’s largest one-month rally since 2022 cited as one contributing factor.
The same account described pressure in bonds and strength in oil. The 10-year Treasury yield rose four basis points overnight to a level the newsletter called its highest since 2002; it also said 10- and 30-year yields rose toward month-end. Brent crude gained more than 14% for September and WTI more than 5%, each posting a third consecutive positive month. Those are figures reported by the newsletter; it did not give an absolute 10-year yield in the cited passage.

Micron’s reported revenue surge and market reaction
According to the October 1 Morning Squawk republication, Micron beat expectations for both revenue and earnings in fiscal Q4, and data-center revenue rose elevenfold. The newsletter also characterized the company’s current-quarter guidance as stronger than expected, linking demand to an AI-related memory supply crunch.
The accessible account does not provide revenue, earnings, or guidance amounts, so the scale of the beat cannot be assessed from it alone. It reported that Micron shares edged lower in premarket trading despite the results, after gaining more than 500% over the prior 12 months. The newsletter does not specify the measurement endpoint for that share-price comparison. A premarket move is a short-term market reaction, not by itself a verdict on the results.

Kashkari on inflation and the labor market
The newsletter attributed remarks to Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari in an interview with CNBC’s Steve Liesman. It said August PCE inflation came in softer than economists had forecast, but Kashkari still described inflation as “running at around a 3% rate” and “still too high.” On employment, he characterized the labor market as “pretty good” but not “great.” He also said the latest inflation data did not change his view very much.

These comments express Kashkari’s assessment; they are not a Federal Reserve policy decision or a forecast of what the central bank will do. The republication also mentioned an inspector general finding of management failures in the Fed headquarters renovation, while finding no basis for a criminal referral, and reported that President Donald Trump called for former Fed Chair Jerome Powell to leave the Fed board. The underlying interview and inspector-general report are not included in the accessible account.
What was reported about Gemini 4 Argon
Alphabet reportedly started rolling out Gemini 4 Argon to some cybersecurity partners on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The newsletter attributed claims of record real-world software-engineering performance and a tie for first in cybersecurity to Google. It also said Google used the model internally to improve memory optimization in data centers.
The account does not name the benchmarks, describe their methodology, or provide independent validation. It also does not say the model was generally available. The reported rollout should therefore be understood as limited partner access, and the performance descriptions as Google’s claims rather than independently established rankings.

Eli Lilly’s early-stage combination-trial report
The newsletter said Lilly reported improved weight loss in a mid-stage trial when experimental eloralintide was combined with a small dose of tirzepatide, compared with tirzepatide alone. Lilly’s president of Cardiometabolic Health, Ken Custer, described the combination as potentially “a really winning approach.” The newsletter said Phase 3 trials were expected to begin at the end of 2026 and that dosing regimens might change.
The report gives no participant count, study duration, numerical weight-loss result, adverse-event details, or trial identifier. It is an early-stage result as described in the newsletter, not evidence that the combination is approved, available, or proven superior in routine care.

How to read this roundup
This Morning Squawk edition is useful as a concise account of the stories its editors highlighted at the start of October. Its market comparisons and company developments should not be mistaken for a full data set: the accessible republication does not include underlying earnings figures, benchmark documentation, detailed trial results, or source documents for the Federal Reserve items. The specific claims above are therefore kept attributed to the newsletter rather than presented as independently verified findings.
