The semiconductor market is concentrated among its largest vendors, but no single company holds a majority of the broad market. Gartner’s 2024 worldwide vendor-revenue ranking puts NVIDIA first with 11.7% of revenue; the ten largest vendors together account for about 59%. The answer changes, however, when “market” means foundry services, a particular chip category, or sales by companies headquartered in a given country.
How concentrated is the overall semiconductor market?
Gartner estimated worldwide semiconductor vendor revenue at $655.882 billion in 2024. NVIDIA led the ranking at 11.7%, followed by Samsung Electronics at 10.0% and Intel at 7.6%. The ten named companies in Gartner’s table account for about 59% of revenue; its “Others” category is 41.2%. The displayed company shares are rounded, so adding the ten shares gives 58.6%, while subtracting “Others” from 100% gives 58.8%.
This is a revenue ranking across semiconductor vendors, not a ranking of factories, manufacturing capacity, or units shipped. Gartner published the estimate and ranking in April 2025: Gartner’s 2024 semiconductor revenue release.

NVIDIA rose from third place in 2023 to first in 2024, while Intel moved from first to third. Gartner’s Gaurav Gupta attributed the shifts among the top ten partly to demand for AI infrastructure and memory-revenue growth. Gartner reported that memory revenue increased 73.4% in 2024. Gupta also said NVIDIA’s move to first reflected increased demand for its discrete GPUs, which served as the primary choice for AI workloads in data centers. These are Gartner’s explanations for the ranking changes, not proof that one factor alone caused them.
Does TSMC dominate the whole chip market?
No. TSMC’s reported 65.3% share applies to worldwide foundry services in 2024, a narrower market for contract chip manufacturing. It is not TSMC’s share of all semiconductor vendor revenue, and it should not be compared directly with NVIDIA’s 11.7% all-vendor share as though both companies were competing for the same denominator.
Gartner’s public foundry-services abstract reports TSMC’s share and says it ranked first. The abstract does not provide the complete market table or methodology publicly, so the 65.3% figure should be read specifically as Gartner’s 2024 foundry-services estimate.
What does U.S.-headquartered companies’ share measure?
The Semiconductor Industry Association’s 2025 report excerpt says U.S.-headquartered semiconductor companies represented 50.4% of global semiconductor sales revenue in 2024. This is a headquarters-based sales measure: it does not mean that 50.4% of chips were manufactured in the United States. The report says its estimates draw on WSTS, Gartner, Omdia, and SIA. Why do market-share figures differ?
“Semiconductor market share” is not one universal statistic. A figure may count company revenue across the industry, revenue in a product category such as memory, foundry-service revenue, unit shipments, manufacturing capacity, or sales attributed to companies by headquarters. Those measures answer different questions.
For example, an HKEX-filed market overview citing WSTS and SIA gives 2024 global semiconductor sales of $627.6 billion and says the top ten participants accounted for approximately 67%. That differs from Gartner’s $655.882 billion vendor-revenue estimate and about 59% top-ten share. The figures come from different presentations and should not be combined or treated as directly interchangeable. The HKEX document is an issuer-filed overview, not the underlying WSTS or SIA dataset: HKEX filing.

- Market boundary: all semiconductor vendors, foundry services, or a product segment.
- Measure: revenue, units, shipments, or capacity.
- Geography: worldwide or a specified region.
- Period: the year or other time range.
- Source: the publisher and its estimate or methodology.
Without those details, two accurate-looking percentages can describe entirely different markets. These 2024 figures also do not establish a current 2026 annual share, a legal finding about market power, or a harmonized ranking by production capacity.
