During Amazon’s October 2025 Prime Big Deal Days promotion, The Complete History of Middle-earth: Collector’s Box Set was reported at $80.65, down from its $250 MSRP. The offer required Prime membership and is historical: no current 2026 price or stock is verified. GameSpot reported the promotion on October 3, 2025.

What the $80.65 offer included

The collector’s set gathers all 12 volumes of The History of Middle-earth into three hardcover books, arranged in the series’ original publication chronology. GameSpot reported 5,440 pages across the three books, which have dust jackets and fit into a custom display case. Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien’s son and literary executor, compiled and edited the 12-volume series.

The volumes included are:

  1. The Book of Lost Tales, Part I
  2. The Book of Lost Tales, Part II
  3. The Lays of Beleriand
  4. The Shaping of Middle-earth
  5. The Lost Road and Other Writings
  6. The Return of the Shadow
  7. The Treason of Isengard
  8. The War of the Ring
  9. Sauron Defeated
  10. Morgoth’s Ring
  11. The War of the Jewels
  12. The Peoples of Middle-earth

How the reported discount worked

GameSpot reported the set at $80.65 during the October 2025 event, compared with a $250 MSRP for the set published in 2020. The report described the price as 68% off. Prime membership was required for the offer, and the set had sold out multiple times during that week, making availability volatile even then. Those details describe that promotion only; they do not establish today’s price, eligibility, or stock.

How it compares with the four-box edition

GameSpot also covered four decorative hardcover box sets released in 2024 that collectively include the same 12 History of Middle-earth volumes. That configuration adds The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales in Box Set 1, plus a book-length index with the final set. The four-set range features illustrated, reversible dust jackets and display cases.

Option Packaging Additional books noted Price status
The Complete History of Middle-earth: Collector’s Box Set Three hardcover books in one display case; all 12 volumes None noted in GameSpot’s description $80.65 was reported for the October 2025 Prime Big Deal Days promotion; historical, not a current quote
2024 decorative collection Four separate boxes, with illustrated, reversible dust jackets and display cases The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales in Box Set 1; a book-length index with the final set Current verified total price not stated in GameSpot’s report

The three-book set is the more consolidated format if the priority is storing the 12-volume series together. The four-box collection may suit readers who want the additional books and the different jacket and display design. Because the 2025 offer is no longer evidence of a live deal, compare current verified totals before choosing between editions.
