In The Blood of Dawnwalker, Infamy tracks how much Coen has disrupted Brencis’s rule. As Infamy rises, Brencis issues Edicts that make travel, shopping, and moving around the valley more difficult. PowerPyx’s September 2, 2026 guide reports nine Edicts; the game’s explanatory text and developer comments support the broad mechanics, but the complete list below is attributed to that secondary guide.
What Infamy measures
The Court panel tracks Coen’s Infamy and activities that disrupt the order established by Brencis and his boyars. The game’s explanatory text, transcribed by the unofficial DawnwalkerDB, says each new Infamy Level leads Brencis to proclaim an Edict.

Rebel Wolves Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz described Infamy as a measure of Coen’s reputation with the vampiric court and the people of Vale Sangora. He named rampages, killing, being caught stealing, quest decisions, and directly targeting Brencis’s organization as possible triggers. As he put it, “If you go on rampages, if you just kill people, if you steal things and people catch you, you, of course, get this bad rep.” (Game Informer, May 15, 2026.)
All nine reported Edicts
PowerPyx reports that Edicts are announced after an in-game day passes, in a cutscene in Svartrau. Its list gives the following effects in order. The exact sequence is guide-reported rather than an exhaustive list confirmed by a developer source.
#1 Best Overall
- Day 1 Edition includes the Base Game Disc, Steelbook, and World Map.
- Make The Story Your Own - Experience and shape the plot the way you want. Embark on the quest to save your family, or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Rush in head first or risk taking time to prepare. Go alone or search for friends and forge unlikely alliances.
- Day And Night - Experience two different gameplay loops, offering distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and varying ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
- Every Action Matters - Every action - and inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family’s days are numbered, and every time you take on a quest, time moves forward, compelling you closer to the end. Choose carefully whom to help and whom to leave behind. You will not have time for everyone. The world waits for no one. And neither does the villain.
| Infamy level | Reported Edict effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | Additional patrols appear in settlements. |
| 2 | Military checkpoints appear throughout the valley. |
| 3 | Prices increase throughout the valley. |
| 4 | More soldiers patrol roads, and patrol commanders recognize Coen. |
| 5 | Fewer people are outdoors between dusk and dawn. |
| 6 | Additional military checkpoints appear throughout the valley, and prices rise further. |
| 7 | Headhunters appear in the valley, and all soldiers recognize Coen. |
| 8 | All soldiers become stronger. |
| 9 | The gates of Svartrau City close. PowerPyx says the walls can only be climbed at night. |
PowerPyx also reports that defeating each of three vassals raises Infamy by a full level, while Court Activities and clearing Soldier Camps contribute toward it. DawnwalkerDB describes Court Activities as assigned to individual boyars; the Court panel identifies activities that disrupt their order.
Does high Infamy help or hurt Coen?
It does both, in different ways. Edicts increase pressure from patrols, checkpoints, recognition, higher prices, stronger soldiers, and restricted access. Tomaszkiewicz also described a possible benefit: resistance-aligned characters may see rising Infamy as evidence that Coen opposes Brencis, and it can make intimidation easier. He cited more patrols, bounty hunters, and, in an extreme case, a city lockdown as examples of Brencis’s response. These are trade-offs, not a universal recommendation to keep Infamy low or raise it quickly.
Rank #2
- Make the story your own - Experience and design the plot the way you want it. Set out to save your family, or swear revenge on your Creator and destroy all who stand in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Plunge into the action or take time to prepare. Go alone or find friends and forge unlikely alliances.
- Day and Night - Experience two different gameplay loops with different abilities to choose from, secrets to uncover, and different ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
- Every action counts - every action - and every inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family's days are numbered, and every time you take a quest, time progresses and brings you closer to the end. Choose carefully who you help and who you leave behind. You won't have time for all. The world is waiting for no one. And neither does evil.
- Sword, claws and anger - Defy gravity, become a brutal force of nature and use your supernatural abilities as a vampire. Or raise your sword and use powerful magic to take on your opponents as a human being. Experiment and adapt as your shape changes throughout the day and night; each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
- Open world full of adventure - venture through the handmade open world and discover everything it has to offer. Stroll through the lush forests, the vast plains, the treacherous swamps and explore the steep mountain peaks and medieval settlements. Explore forgotten ruins, find remains of an ancient civilization, and uncover a truth that might have preferred to remain hidden.
How to manage Infamy
- Check your status: Open the Court panel to see current Infamy and the listed activities that disrupt Brencis’s order.
- Choose disruptive actions with their consequences in mind: Killing, rampages, caught theft, some quest decisions, and attacks on Brencis’s organization can raise Infamy.
- Plan for the Edicts: As levels rise, allow for more hostile patrols, recognition, checkpoints, higher prices, and later access restrictions. Check the effects in your current game build if you need to rely on a specific Edict detail.
- Weigh relationships as well as difficulty: Resistance characters may respond positively to Coen’s opposition to Brencis, according to the creative director.
Why Edicts matter in the game’s time structure
The Edicts affect a world where timing and movement already shape a run. Tomaszkiewicz described the post-prologue story as a 30-day-and-night sandbox: major actions advance time, while open-world roaming does not. Coen is human by day and a vampire by night, with different abilities and quest experiences. Patrol changes, fewer people outdoors overnight, and closed city gates therefore intersect with when and how Coen travels. (PlayStation Blog, August 20, 2025.)
The time limit and Infamy are separate systems. A later developer interview on PlayStation Blog discusses consequences when time runs out while the game continues, rather than treating every missed objective as an automatic game over; that does not make the time limit part of the Infamy meter. (PlayStation Blog, April 28, 2026.)
