Crake—also known as Marat—is a romanceable character in The Blood of Dawnwalker. His route is tied to the Manumit rebellion: support the rebels, complete Distant Shadows, then pursue the meeting and romance opportunity in A Closer Look. A route guide reports a time-segment deadline for following up, but the exact mandatory dialogue choices and deadline conditions have not been confirmed in an official route specification.
How to start Crake’s romance
Crake is the name used for Marat, the mortal leader of the Manumits opposing the Vrakhiri Court in Vale Sangora. PC Gamer’s romance guide describes commitment to the rebellion and continued progress on his character quests as ways to build trust with him. The route is therefore quest-led rather than a single isolated conversation. PC Gamer’s romance guide identifies Crake (Marat) alongside Anca and Lacra as a romance option.

- Join and support the Manumits. Make progress with the rebellion and prioritize Crake’s related quests; guides identify this ongoing support as important to his route.
- Complete Distant Shadows. The Crake-specific route guide places this quest before the next meeting opportunity.
- Follow up on A Closer Look. When Drogos directs you toward Marat, choose to speak to him and meet him promptly. The guide describes this as the point to pursue the romance choice.
The sequence comes from a third-party route guide, not an official checklist of required choices. It does not establish every dialogue response or all conditions that could prevent the romance. The Crake route guide summarizes the quest order and follow-up.

The Crake guide attributes a 16-time-segment deadline to PowerPyx after accepting A Closer Look. Treat that as a reported guide deadline, not a universally verified game rule. The same guide distinguishes this window from the separate time cost of making the romance choice: the deadline for reaching the scene and the scene’s time cost are different measures.

To reduce the risk of missing the opportunity, avoid letting optional activities delay the handoff and meeting. The available sources do not establish exactly how the game counts every segment or whether circumstances alter the reported window.
Can you romance Crake and other characters in one playthrough?
PC Gamer reports that Coen can pursue more than one partner and that the routes for Anca, Lacra, and Crake can fit in a single playthrough. That does not mean every romance scene can be postponed indefinitely: character quests have their own timing, and completing a route late may affect whether a character appears in the epilogue. Prioritize each character’s quests and flirt opportunities as they arise. What is confirmed—and what is not
The route reporting supports the identity and broad quest progression: Crake and Marat are the same person, and his romance is associated with the Manumit storyline, Distant Shadows, and A Closer Look. The 16-segment figure is attributed to a third-party guide, rather than presented as an official specification.
No cited official source provides a definitive list of mandatory dialogue choices or every condition that can close Crake’s route. Follow the quest sequence and meet him promptly, but treat exact choice-by-choice walkthrough claims as guide reporting rather than a confirmed universal script.
