For a story-focused prologue in The Blood of Dawnwalker, prioritize the time-sensitive quests in PC Gamer’s recommended order, and finish Deep Down before evening if you want to find Lazar alive. There is no official universal best route: quests advance time, so this sequence is a way to favor particular story content—not a way to complete everything or guarantee a specific ending.
Why quest order matters
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th-century Europe. Its protagonist, Coen, is human by day and a vampire by night. The publisher describes different day and night gameplay loops, with distinct abilities, mysteries, and approaches; it also says quests move time forward and warns that players will not have time to help everyone. The official game page sums up that design: “Every action – and inaction – shapes the world around you.” Official game page
That makes a “best” route dependent on what you value. The sequence below follows PC Gamer’s prologue recommendation, which prioritizes time-sensitive content rather than attempting every quest. It is a guide’s recommendation, not an official required order or a guarantee that other sequences fail.
Recommended prologue quest order
Follow the time segments in order. At the third segment, choose Page-Turner if you want the optional activity; otherwise, the guide suggests doing Into The Den in the afternoon instead.
#1 Best Overall
- Day 1 Edition includes the Base Game Disc, Steelbook, and World Map.
- Make The Story Your Own - Experience and shape the plot the way you want. Embark on the quest to save your family, or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Rush in head first or risk taking time to prepare. Go alone or search for friends and forge unlikely alliances.
- Day And Night - Experience two different gameplay loops, offering distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and varying ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
- Every Action Matters - Every action - and inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family’s days are numbered, and every time you take on a quest, time moves forward, compelling you closer to the end. Choose carefully whom to help and whom to leave behind. You will not have time for everyone. The world waits for no one. And neither does the villain.
| Time segment | Quests |
|---|---|
| 1 Morning | Live Bait |
| 2 Morning | Dead Drop; Withering Away |
| 3 Noon | Optional: Page-Turner |
| 4 Noon | Withering Away, part 2 |
| 5 Afternoon | Enter Not; If A Tree Falls; Deep Down |
| 6 Afternoon | Blasphemy |
| 7 Evening | Disturbed |
| 8 Evening | Like Father, Like Son |
PC Gamer says nearly every prologue quest is time-sensitive and that there is not enough time to complete them all. Its suggested skips are Someone Needs A Lesson and On The Run. The guide describes Into The Den as not time-sensitive, so it can be completed after the prologue if you do not substitute it for Page-Turner. PC Gamer’s prologue quest-order guide
Choices and timing that can change what you see
Esme’s opening scene
At Pieter’s direction, you can choose whether Coen force-feeds Esme. PC Gamer says this choice has no long-term impact, so it need not dictate the route.
Rank #2
Withering Away and Anca
PC Gamer recommends paying Anca the double rate, noting that you can afford it after looting the nearby cave. The guide also suggests the optional Page-Turner activity if you are interested in a later relationship with Anca. These are recommendations, not prerequisites for following the route.

When brewing, use hot water and add three spoonfuls of herbs. PC Gamer warns that a wrong recipe has serious consequences for the family at mass.
Rank #3
- NEW GAME MODE: Expand your Blood Rage experience with the Gods of Asgard Expansion, introducing an entirely new game mode that brings the mythical deities of Norse legend into the fray.
- POWERFUL DEITIES: Embrace the might of 6 awe-inspiring Norse gods, each represented by a highly detailed figure and a unique set of cards to aid or hinder the various clans.
- STRATEGIC INFLUENCE: These powerful deities will impact your strategies, offering opportunities for alliance or rivalry as their whims dictate.
- IMMERSIVE DETAIL: Experience the rich world of Norse mythology with intricately designed figures that bring these legendary gods to life on your tabletop.
- ENHANCED BATTLE: Elevate your battles with the influence of the gods, adding layers of complexity and strategy to your quests for ultimate glory.
Deep Down and Lazar
Complete Deep Down before evening if you want to find Lazar alive. PC Gamer reports that waiting until evening leaves his corpse instead. This is the route’s most consequential timing detail.
Forgotten Guardian
For the Forgotten Guardian fight, PC Gamer recommends using the Mireleaf Bracers and Claw Art ability found in the ruin, and dodging the unblockable double sword slash. This is the guide’s tactical advice; it has not been independently verified here.
Rank #4
- New Dark Souls: The Board Game adventures await in the Explorers expansion
- New enemies, new encounter cards utilising those enemies, and new treasure cards for characters to discover along their adventures
- Components for one new mini boss encounter and one new main boss encounter further enhance players’ options and provide fresh challenges.
- The Explorers expansion also includes 18 terrain miniatures to replace all of the gravestone, barrel, bonfire, and treasure chest tokens from Dark Souls: The Board Game,
- The new Mimic ambush rules mean each chest could turn into a dangerous (but rewarding) foe!
What this route does—and does not—promise
- It does: prioritize quests that PC Gamer’s prologue guide treats as time-sensitive, with Deep Down placed before evening for the Lazar outcome described above.
- It does not: complete every prologue quest, represent an official canonical sequence, or establish the best route for every romance, collectible, or ending.
- It is based on: PC Gamer’s prologue walkthrough and playthrough recommendations. Route details may change with patches, so check the current game version if a quest behaves differently.
