Anthropic is far ahead on company-reported valuation and run-rate revenue; Cognition is the more focused company, built around its Devin software-engineering agent. That makes Anthropic the financial-scale leader in the latest figures available here, not a proven winner at coding. The evidence does not establish that Devin or Claude Code produces better software, saves more time, or is safer in a controlled comparison.
How do Cognition and Anthropic compare on company scale?
The clearest comparison is financial, but the figures are company announcements from different dates, not audited statements or a simultaneous snapshot. Annualized run-rate revenue estimates a current pace over a year; it is not the same as audited revenue earned during a completed year.
| Measure | Cognition | Anthropic |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation and funding | On September 8, 2026, Cognition said it had raised more than $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation. | On May 28, 2026, Anthropic announced $65 billion in Series H funding at a $965 billion post-money valuation. |
| Company-wide run-rate revenue | Cognition said its run rate rose from $492 million in May 2026 to almost $900 million by September, in its September 8 announcement. Its homepage later listed a September 25 announcement titled “Cognition Crosses $1B in Annualized Revenue Run Rate”; that headline alone does not establish the underlying measurement basis. | Anthropic said its run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion earlier in May 2026, in its May 28 announcement. |
| Coding-product run-rate revenue | Not stated in Cognition’s September 8 announcement. | Anthropic said Claude Code exceeded $2.5 billion in run-rate revenue in February 2026, more than doubling since the start of that year. This is a product-level figure, not the company-wide figure above. |
On these reported measures, Anthropic is substantially larger. The revenue comparisons are not perfectly like-for-like: the companies reported them on different dates, and company-specific estimation methods may differ. Cognition’s later headline signals another claimed milestone, but without its supporting detail it should not be used to calculate a precise comparison.

What are the companies actually building?
Cognition: a company centered on Devin
Cognition describes Devin as an autonomous software engineer that can plan, write, test, and ship production code within a customer’s codebase. Its September 2026 announcement also describes proactive incident investigation, security-vulnerability triage, and automations triggered by events. These descriptions show the workflows Cognition is targeting; they do not by themselves establish how well the product performs across customer environments.
#1 Best Overall
Cognition presents itself as an independent agent lab that can select and combine models, including its own. Its Series E announcement says: “We can choose and combine the models best suited to the work, including our own.” That is a strategic positioning claim, not evidence that model choice makes Devin more capable than Claude Code.
Anthropic: coding inside a broader Claude business
Anthropic describes Claude Code as agentic coding software, while its Claude models and products also serve broader knowledge-work uses. That gives Anthropic a wider product scope than a business focused primarily on software-engineering agents. Breadth may matter to organizations seeking one provider for several kinds of work, but it does not settle which coding agent is better at a particular task.

What do enterprise adoption and distribution show?
Cognition’s reported deployments
Cognition’s September announcement names NVIDIA in chip design, GE Aerospace in aviation, Citi in financial services, Mercedes-Benz in automotive, and Modal in AI infrastructure. These are company-reported deployments. The announcement does not quantify independently verified outcomes, so the customer names indicate reach, not measured productivity or return on investment.

Anthropic’s reported enterprise traction and cloud access
In February 2026, Anthropic said more than 500 customers spent over $1 million annualized, eight of the Fortune 10 were Claude customers, and enterprise use represented more than half of Claude Code revenue. These are Anthropic’s own reported metrics, not neutral industry counts.
Anthropic says Claude is available through AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, and describes a diversified hardware strategy. Access through major cloud providers may fit organizations that prefer to procure through existing infrastructure relationships. Cognition, by contrast, emphasizes its independence and ability to choose models. The available claims describe different distribution strategies; they do not show which company has greater market share.
Does the evidence show who is winning at coding?
No controlled head-to-head evidence here establishes a Devin-versus-Claude Code winner. Company funding, valuation, run-rate revenue, customer announcements, and product descriptions answer questions about business scale and positioning; they do not measure code quality, task completion, engineering time saved, or safety under matched conditions.
A useful comparison for a team evaluating either product would hold the task, repository, permissions, model access, and time budget constant, then assess results against criteria that matter in production:
- Correctness: Does the change pass the existing test suite and meet the task’s acceptance criteria?
- Review burden: How much human inspection or rework is required before the change is safe to merge?
- Workflow fit: Can the agent work with the team’s codebase, tools, and desired level of autonomy?
- Risk controls: Are permissions and review practices appropriate for the code and systems the agent can affect?
Those are evaluation criteria, not findings about either product. Without results from comparable tests, claims that one agent is categorically more productive or safer go beyond the evidence.

Which AI coding company is winning?
For company-reported financial scale, Anthropic is the clear leader in the available comparison. Cognition’s case is specialization: it is building an agent company around Devin and describes a model-flexible approach. Anthropic combines Claude Code with a broader AI business, substantial reported enterprise traction, and access through three major cloud platforms.
So the answer depends on what “winning” means. Anthropic leads on reported valuation and revenue scale; the available evidence does not show that either company has won the coding-agent contest. A buyer choosing between Devin and Claude Code needs task-specific evaluation rather than a conclusion drawn from company size.
