The best Sims 4 expansion pack depends on what you want to do in the game. Seasons is a strong pick for variety across ordinary lives; Cottage Living for rural and farm-oriented play; City Living for apartments and urban activities; Cats & Dogs for pets; and Life & Death for supernatural stories. There is no one best choice for every player.
What makes an expansion pack worth buying?
EA describes Expansion Packs as “large packs that build on The Sims 4 to take your Sims on new adventures.” In practice, the useful question is which pack adds the kind of gameplay you will return to, rather than which one has the highest overall rank. EA’s official store lists the available expansion products; listings, prices, promotions, and availability can vary by region or platform.
Choose a pack by the gameplay you want
| Your priority | Pack to consider | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| More variety in everyday lives and calendar events | Seasons | Changing weather, holidays, seasonal events, and a gardening career |
| Rural and cozy play | Cottage Living | Animals, crops, errands, town fairs, and Henford-on-Bagley |
| City life and apartments | City Living | San Myshuno, apartments, festivals, food stalls, karaoke, and work-from-home career options |
| Pets and animal care | Cats & Dogs | Customizable cats and dogs, pet personalities and bonds, and veterinary clinic gameplay |
| Ghost stories and end-of-life themes | Life & Death | Ghosts, funerals, wills, mortician gameplay, and crypts |
The feature descriptions and recommendations below reflect GamesRadar’s July 2026 buying guide, not a hands-on comparison or a universal ranking.
Seasons: for variety in everyday play
Seasons is the broadest everyday-life recommendation in GamesRadar’s guide. Changing weather and seasonal holidays add recurring events to the calendar, while the gardening career gives players another direction for developing a Sim’s life. GamesRadar ranks it first in its guide; treat that as the outlet’s editorial judgment, not a settled consensus or a guarantee that it will suit every play style.
#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Create Vampires
- Unleash Supernatural Powers
- Escape to Forgotten Hollow
- Live the Immortal Life
Cottage Living: for rural routines
Choose Cottage Living if you want a countryside setting and a play loop centered on animals and growing crops. Henford-on-Bagley, errands, and town fairs round out the rural focus, making it the clearest fit among these options for a cozy, farm-oriented save.
City Living: for apartments and urban activity
City Living is the option to consider if you want your Sims in San Myshuno. Its city-focused additions include apartments, festivals, food stalls, and karaoke, along with apartment-specific hassles and work-from-home career options. It favors a busier urban routine over the countryside feel of Cottage Living.
Rank #2
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Rule your story: Build a powerful Dynasty, shape shared Values, choose an Heir, or exile family members in a deep life simulation driven by legacy, prestige, and choice.
- Claim the crown: Rise through Nobility by winning the people, pleasing rival Nobles, dueling with swords, or exposing Scandals that can change the balance of power.
- Scandal fuels drama: Forbidden romances, secret children, and public disgrace can impact careers, relationships, Dynasty Prestige, and Noble Favor.
Cats & Dogs: for pets and veterinary play
Cats & Dogs centers on customizable cats and dogs, their personalities and relationships with Sims, and veterinary clinic gameplay. It is the direct choice if having pets as part of the household is more important to you than a new setting or seasonal calendar.
Life & Death: for supernatural storytelling
Life & Death is aimed at players who want to build stories around ghosts and end-of-life themes. Funerals, wills, mortician gameplay, and crypts give those stories a more specific focus than the everyday-life, rural, or city additions in the other packs here.
Rank #3
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Fairy Garden Digital Content
- Life Among the Trees- Step outside and make yourself at home in nature.
- The Fairest Folk - Do you feel nature’s mystical pull? Embark on a special journey and become a Fairy
- A Balanced Lifestyle - Prolonged negative emotions cause imbalance, and imbalance can lead to Ailments with strange effects
How to make the choice
- Pick the gameplay loop you want to repeat. Choose seasonal events for broader everyday variety, farming for a rural routine, apartments and festivals for city life, pets for animal-focused households, or ghosts and funerals for supernatural storytelling.
- Think about your existing saves. A pack is most useful when its setting or activities fit the households and stories you already enjoy playing.
- Check the current listing for your region and platform. Use EA’s store to confirm that the pack is available and review the current price or promotion before buying; those details change.
Are there more expansion packs to choose from?
GamesRadar counted 21 expansion packs in its July 2026 guide. That is the outlet’s count at publication, not a durable EA-reported total: the catalog changes, so check the official store for the current lineup rather than relying on a fixed number.
