As of October 2, 2026, a handful of early laptop offers reported at Amazon, Costco, Walmart, and Best Buy span MacBooks, everyday Windows laptops, and gaming PCs. The biggest featured saving is $1,025 on a Lenovo gaming laptop—not $900—while the MacBook Air offer is $150 off. These are dated prices reported by Mashable, not live-verified listings, so check the retailer’s current price, configuration, seller, stock, and terms before buying.
Early laptop deals reported on October 2
The table captures the main offers highlighted by Mashable senior shopping reporter Haley Henschel on October 2, 2026. The listed savings are arithmetic differences from the reference prices in that article; they do not establish that a reference price was a recent selling price or that an offer remains available.
| Product and configuration | Retailer and reported price | Reported comparison | Who might consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple MacBook Air, 13-inch, M5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD | Amazon: $1,449 | $150 off $1,599 | People seeking a portable macOS laptop for general use or school. Mashable calls it an all-rounder; that is the reporter’s assessment, not an independent test. |
| MSI Prestige 16 AI+, Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 2.8K OLED touchscreen, integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics | Costco: reported $400 discount; sale price not stated in the Mashable article | $400 off; reference price not stated | Windows buyers who want a large OLED touchscreen and 32GB of memory. The article says the offer was not limited to Costco members; confirm terms with Costco. |
| HP OmniBook 3 16, Snapdragon X, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD | Walmart: $699.99 | $450 off $1,149.99 | Someone looking for a lower-priced 16-inch Windows option, subject to checking that the configuration suits their applications and storage needs. |
| Lenovo Legion Pro 7, AMD Ryzen 9000, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 16-inch 3K OLED, 240Hz, up to 500 nits | Best Buy: $3,374.99 | $1,025 off $4,399.99 | Gamers seeking a high-end discrete GPU and fast OLED display; it is a different class of purchase from a laptop for browsing, schoolwork, or basic productivity. |
The headline figure of “up to $900” does not describe the largest offer in the article: its featured Lenovo Legion Pro 7 is listed as $1,025 below Best Buy’s stated reference price. Mashable also describes savings of up to $900 on other Windows laptops and gaming PCs. Treat each figure as that article’s October 2 claim, not as independently audited price history.
Other reported markdowns
The same article also lists a $650 discount on an LG gram Max 17, $850.99 off an Asus ROG Strix G18, and $750 off an Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, plus additional MacBooks and gaming machines. It does not establish that those offers are live now; check each retailer’s listing and exact configuration before comparing.

Which offer fits your needs?
For school and everyday use
Start with the MacBook Air if you specifically want macOS and portability, or compare the HP OmniBook 3 if a lower reported price matters more and Windows suits your needs. A model name alone is not enough: verify memory, SSD capacity, processor, screen, and the applications you need. Low-priced configurations can make trade-offs, particularly in storage; Tom’s Guide noted that concern in its September 27, 2026 roundup.
For general Windows productivity
The MSI Prestige offer has the strongest stated memory and display details among the general-purpose Windows offers listed here: 32GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 2.8K OLED touchscreen. Its sale price is not stated in the cited Mashable article, so compare the actual Costco checkout price with other laptops of similar configuration rather than relying on the discount amount alone.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
For gaming
The Legion Pro 7’s RTX 5080, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and 240Hz OLED panel make it a much more specialized and expensive option than the everyday-use choices. Those specifications may matter for demanding games, but they do not make its additional cost useful to someone who mainly browses or writes documents. Compare the GPU and display alongside the price, not just the advertised saving.

- Match the workload. Decide whether you need a portable school laptop, general productivity machine, macOS system, or gaming laptop. A gaming GPU is not automatically worth paying for if you do not need it.
- Compare the full configuration. Check the processor, graphics, RAM, SSD size, screen size and type, and refresh rate. For example, a 16GB/1TB MacBook Air and a 32GB/RTX 5080 gaming laptop serve different needs and budgets.
- Evaluate the actual price, not the percentage claim. Record the retailer, exact configuration, current checkout price, and stated comparison price. The roundups here do not prove a listed reference price was the product’s usual recent price, so do not treat the claimed saving as evidence that a deal is historically low.
- Check the seller and purchase terms. Mashable cautions that Amazon offers can involve unknown brands or third-party sellers. Confirm who sells and ships the laptop, return terms, stock, and any Costco or student eligibility condition.
- Use price-history tools carefully. Amazon says its price-history feature provides up to 365 days of pricing insights on hundreds of millions of products. That is Amazon’s description of the tool, not independent validation of a specific listing’s history.

No cited source establishes that any of these laptops will cost less during the event. If a current listing has the exact configuration you want, a seller and return policy you accept, and a price you are comfortable with, it may be reasonable to buy without assuming a further drop. If you are willing to wait, compare the event price against the same configuration—not just the model name—and remember that availability can change.
Amazon’s announcement lists U.S. Prime membership at $14.99 per month or $139 per year, with eligible free trials and discounted membership options. Whether joining makes sense for a laptop purchase depends on your eligibility and other benefits you would use. Amazon also says shoppers can use Alexa deal alerts.

Other publications’ September roundups offer context, but their prices are not live-verified here and should not be mixed with the October 2 offers as if collected at the same time. Tom’s Guide listed a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 at $459 and an HP OmniBook 3 at $629 on September 27, 2026, alongside Acer, Dell, LG, and MacBook models. It also cautioned that some budget configurations have limited storage and that MacBook discounts should be considered against higher prices following Apple price increases.

TechRadar’s September 22, 2026 roundup included a Lenovo Chromebook at $199, a MacBook Neo at $599 in a student offer, a Dell XPS 13 listed at $799.99 with a lower student price, and an Asus Zenbook 14 at $899.99. Its MacBook Neo example includes Australia-specific context, so it is not a directly comparable U.S. offer.
