For most people, the iPhone 17 is the strongest all-rounder in the current buying-guide landscape. The iPhone 17e is the lower-cost option to consider, while the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo each target a more specific priority. The right choice depends on what matters most to you—not simply which model has the highest number.
These recommendations reflect categories and trade-offs identified in Macworld’s 2026 iPhone buying guides, not hands-on testing by iTechGuides. Check the current price, stock and exact model features in your region before buying; those details can change.
Which iPhone should you buy in 2026?
Start with your main priority, then check whether the candidate’s trade-offs make sense for your budget and everyday use. Macworld’s 2026 guides identify these models for different kinds of buyers:

| Your priority | Model to consider | Why it stands out | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best all-rounder | iPhone 17 | Macworld describes it as a balance of price, display, cameras, storage and battery without Pro pricing. | Current local price, storage configuration and whether the Pro-specific features matter to you. |
| Spend less | iPhone 17e | Macworld’s quick guide names it best value among the models it compares. | Its local price and feature differences from the iPhone 17. The guide’s label does not establish that it is the cheapest iPhone available in every market. |
| Camera capability | iPhone 18 Pro | Macworld assigns it the camera-focused recommendation. | Camera features and image quality against model-specific reviews; the category label alone does not establish how it performs in every shooting condition. |
| Battery life | iPhone 18 Pro Max | Macworld recommends it for battery life. | Any runtime figures against Apple’s current model information and a dated test. Macworld’s guide gives inconsistent runtime figures in different sections, so a single figure should not be taken from it without verification. |
| Thin, light design | iPhone Air | Macworld highlights its thinness and lightness. | Actual dimensions and weight, plus the camera and battery compromises described in a model-specific review. |
| Largest folding display | iPhone Duo | Macworld identifies it as the folding option with the largest screen. | Regional availability, price, durability information and hands-on test evidence. A folding design is a distinct form factor, not an automatic upgrade for everyone. |
Apple’s iPhone model comparison is the official place to check specifications and ratings for the models it lists. Since model information and availability can vary, confirm the exact version sold where you live.

When the iPhone 17 is the sensible default
The iPhone 17 is the most natural starting point if you want a balanced phone and do not have a particular reason to pay for a Pro model. Macworld’s 2026 guide presents it as the all-rounder, citing its mix of price, display, cameras, storage and battery. That makes it a useful shortlist choice—not proof that it is best for every budget or use case.
Before choosing it, compare its current price with the iPhone 17e and the relevant Pro model in your market. If a feature you would actually use is available only on a more expensive option, the extra cost may be worthwhile; if not, paying for a higher tier merely to get the newest or most premium model may not improve your experience.

When to choose another model
Choose the iPhone 17e if keeping the price down comes first
Macworld names the iPhone 17e its value pick. Treat “value” as a comparison within that guide, not a guarantee that it is the least expensive iPhone you can buy. Check the exact local price and compare its features with the iPhone 17 before deciding which differences matter to you.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose the iPhone 18 Pro for a camera-first shortlist
The cited buying guide assigns the iPhone 18 Pro its camera category. That is a reason to investigate it if photography or video is a priority, but the category recommendation is not a substitute for a detailed camera comparison. Look for tests that explain the shooting conditions and compare the specific camera features you care about.

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if battery life is your main concern
Macworld recommends the iPhone 18 Pro Max for battery life. Do not use a runtime figure from that guide without checking it: different sections report inconsistent figures. Battery claims should be tied to a specific source and test method, and observed runtime can differ with settings and use.
Choose the iPhone Air for a thinner, lighter design
The iPhone Air is Macworld’s thinness-and-lightness choice. If those qualities matter more to you than a particular camera or battery capability, compare the phone’s actual dimensions and weight with the alternatives and review model-specific testing of the trade-offs.

Consider the iPhone Duo only if a folding screen fits your use
Macworld identifies the iPhone Duo as the largest-screen folding option. Its format is meaningfully different from a conventional iPhone: decide whether the folding display suits how you use a phone, then verify availability, price, durability information and testing before treating it as a practical choice.
How to compare the models without overpaying
Compare the features you will use, not just the model names. Macworld highlights price, cameras, displays, performance, battery life, durability and design as relevant comparison points. Storage also matters: compare the configuration you would actually buy, since a base model and a higher-storage version may represent different value.
- Set a local budget. Check current prices and stock from sellers in your region; buying-guide categories do not establish live prices.
- Choose your top priority. Use the comparison above to narrow the list to the candidates that match it.
- Compare the specific features involved. Check camera systems, display experience, performance, battery evidence, durability information, dimensions and storage rather than assuming a higher tier is better in every respect.
- Check the price difference between your finalists. Decide whether the extra spend buys a feature you will use, not simply a more premium label.
- Verify the exact product and terms before checkout. Confirm model generation, storage, seller, regional availability and any trade-in or upgrade conditions. Compare the total cost rather than relying on a headline discount.
A refurbished or discounted older iPhone may be another budget route, but its condition, seller terms, availability and value need to be assessed for the particular listing. No general recommendation here establishes that a specific refurbished offer is worthwhile.
Check accessory compatibility separately
MagSafe chargers and car mounts can be useful additions, but do not assume that every accessory works with every iPhone. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for both the exact phone model and accessory before buying. A guide mentioning MagSafe accessories does not establish compatibility for every model or accessory pairing.
