If you want to continue Ocarina of Time’s story, play The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask next: Nintendo places it on a timeline branch that follows Ocarina. If you mean “another game with the parts I liked,” the best fit depends on whether you want classic 3D dungeons, a new perspective, or more open-ended exploration.
Choose by what you want from your next game
| If you want… | Start with… | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Story continuity | Majora’s Mask | Nintendo’s timeline overview places it after Ocarina of Time on the Child Timeline. |
| Classic 3D Zelda | The Wind Waker or Twilight Princess | Both are useful alternatives if you want to stay with the series’ classic 3D tradition, without treating them as interchangeable sequels. |
| A different format | A Link Between Worlds | This 2D entry changes the perspective and structure rather than repeating Ocarina’s 3D approach. |
| Broad, open-ended exploration | Breath of the Wild | It offers a more modern, open-ended direction instead of simply recreating the older formula. |
These are preference-based recommendations, not a claim that one game is objectively best for every Ocarina player.

Why Majora’s Mask is the direct follow-up
Nintendo describes Ocarina of Time as a point where the timeline splits: “After the events of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the timeline splinters yet again, this time between the Child and Adult timelines.” Nintendo’s series overview places Majora’s Mask after Ocarina on the Child Timeline. That makes it the clearest choice if by “after” you mean the next story-related game.
Continuity is only one way to choose, though. If you chiefly want the familiar rhythm of a 3D adventure, choose among the other classic-era entries instead; if you want a change in format, try a 2D game.

Other classic 3D Zelda games
The Wind Waker
Choose The Wind Waker if you want another recognizable 3D Zelda adventure but do not need a direct continuation of Ocarina’s story. It is a distinct entry, not a sequel selected for timeline continuity. Nintendo Life’s guide to the best Zelda games is one editorial overview of how the series’ entries fit different tastes.
Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess is another classic 3D option. Nintendo includes it among later timeline entries, but it is not the direct follow-up to Ocarina on the Child Timeline in the way Majora’s Mask is. Consider it when you want to remain in 3D Zelda rather than follow the immediate story route.

Skyward Sword
Skyward Sword is also part of the classic-era 3D conversation, but it is not the next game in Ocarina’s story. It can suit someone looking for another traditional 3D Zelda rather than a specific timeline continuation. Nintendo Life’s series guide surveys these and other entries; use Nintendo’s current product information to confirm which edition and hardware are relevant to you.

Try 2D Zelda for a change of pace
If what you want is Zelda’s exploration and puzzle-solving in a different format, move to a 2D entry rather than searching for another game that duplicates Ocarina’s presentation. A Link Between Worlds is a strong named starting point in that category. The change in perspective makes it a different kind of follow-up, not a lesser substitute for a 3D game.

Choose Breath of the Wild for a bigger structural change
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the option here for players who want broad, open-ended exploration. It is a more substantial change from Ocarina’s classic 3D structure than simply moving to another traditional entry. Pick it because you want a different approach to exploring Hyrule, not because it is the next chapter in Ocarina’s story.
