The ASUS Chromebook Flip C434 is the strongest all-around pick among these 2019 contenders: it combines a 14-inch Full HD touchscreen, convertible hinge, and premium-feeling features in a midrange package. Choose the HP Chromebook x360 14 G1 if longer tested battery life matters most, or Google’s Pixelbook Go if portability and a premium clamshell design matter more than a 360-degree hinge.
Best overall: ASUS Chromebook Flip C434
The C434 is the best default choice in the 2019 roundups represented here. Chrome Unboxed selected it as its category winner, citing its aluminum build, backlit keyboard, glass trackpad, convertible design, and a Core i3 configuration with 8GB of RAM. Android Authority readers also chose it as their best Chromebook so far in 2019.
Its 14-inch, 1920×1080 display gives you more screen space than a compact Chromebook while keeping the device in a conventional laptop size. The 360-degree hinge lets you fold it into tablet or stand modes. That flexibility is useful for touch-first tasks and media viewing, though it is not a reason to buy the C434 if you expect to use it only as a standard laptop.
Configurations differed. ASUS’s 2019 product guide listed options up to an Intel Core i5, while one listed configuration used an Intel Core m3-8100Y, 4GB RAM, and 64GB eMMC storage. Check the exact configuration before buying; the Core i3/8GB model cited in Chrome Unboxed’s roundup is not the only one associated with the C434.

- Powered by the Intel Core m3-8100Y Processor (up to 3.4 GHz) for super-fast and snappy performance. If you use a ton of tabs or run lots of apps, this has the power to get it all done with ease.
- 4GB DDR3 RAM; 64GB eMMC storage and 2x USB Type-C (Gen 1) and 1s Type-A (Gen 1) ports plus a super bright backlit keyboard.
- The lightweight (3lbs) all-aluminum metal body makes the C434 both durable and beautiful for a timeless look that will never go out of style.

Choose the HP Chromebook x360 14 G1 for longer tested battery life
Laptop Mag measured the HP at 12 hours 54 minutes and the C434 at 9 hours 58 minutes in the same continuous Wi-Fi web-surfing test at 150 nits. That is a useful head-to-head result for comparing those two machines under that publication’s test conditions; it is not a promise of the same runtime in everyday use.

The HP is the more compelling choice if you prioritize that tested runtime and want a convertible in roughly the same historical MSRP tier as the C434. The cited comparisons do not establish a complete, directly comparable specification list for the HP, so verify its processor, memory, storage, and display on the specific unit you find.
Choose Pixelbook Go for portability and a premium clamshell
Pixelbook Go is the alternative for buyers who want a more portable, premium-built Chromebook and do not need the C434’s 360-degree hinge. PCWorld’s October 28, 2019 review says every configuration included at least 8GB of RAM. Ars Technica recorded a $649 starting price in 2019, placing it above the C434 and HP’s approximate $599 MSRP class in the cited coverage.

The evidence cited here does not establish a matching battery-test figure for the Go.

What to check before choosing a 2019 Chromebook
- Exact configuration: A model name can cover different processors, RAM amounts, and storage. Confirm the listing’s full specifications rather than assuming every C434 or HP x360 has the same components.
- Display and hinge: The C434’s 14-inch 1080p screen and convertible hinge are established advantages when you want screen space and tablet or stand modes. Pixelbook Go is a clamshell rather than a convertible.
- Battery claims: Compare like with like. The 12:54 and 9:58 figures are from one controlled Wi-Fi browsing test at 150 nits, not universal estimates of daily battery life.
- Keyboard and trackpad: Chrome Unboxed specifically praised the C434’s backlit keyboard and glass trackpad. The cited material does not provide a consistent hands-on comparison of all three models’ input devices.
- Availability and condition: These are 2019 models. Confirm the seller, regional availability, condition, included charger, and return policy before purchasing; historical launch prices are not a guide to today’s stock or value.
