For Android mobile-data tracking, start with GlassWire; for Windows traffic monitoring with bandwidth controls, consider NetLimiter. GlassWire also offers computer traffic history and per-app, host, and traffic-type breakdowns. Sniffnet is another desktop option, but the specific app-identification feature cited here comes from secondary reporting. None of these device monitors automatically measures every device in your home: for a household data cap, compare the relevant device totals with your router or internet provider’s usage record.
Which internet-usage monitor should you choose?
| App | Best fit | What it can show or do | Scope and caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| GlassWire for Android | Android users checking cellular or Wi-Fi use | App activity, mobile-data and Wi-Fi monitoring, usage alerts, and firewall functionality. GlassWire says app-usage information does not leave the phone. | Features and availability can vary by device and Android version. These Android details do not establish support for iPhone. |
| GlassWire for computer | Users who want visual traffic history and app or host detail | Past and present traffic visualization, with usage breakdowns by apps, hosts, or traffic type; some features are Premium. | Measures the computer running it, not every device in the household. Its Premium page describes total consumption since installation and data export. |
| NetLimiter | Windows users who want monitoring plus controls | Real-time per-application monitoring, bandwidth limits, quotas, connection blocking or firewall rules, and long-term statistics. | Windows-focused. Check the current version and licensing details on the official site before installing or purchasing. |
| Sniffnet | Desktop users considering another traffic-monitoring tool | Windows Central reported on April 17, 2026 that Sniffnet 1.5 added identification of apps and programs using bandwidth. | That feature detail is from secondary reporting; confirm current platform support and capabilities with the developer. |
What each option is useful for
GlassWire: visual history and mobile alerts
GlassWire’s computer features are suited to finding patterns over time and seeing which apps or hosts are associated with traffic. Its features page describes a network-data visualization and a usage table for apps, traffic, or hosts. Its Premium features page describes tracking total consumption since installation, additional breakdowns, and exporting usage data; some capabilities are paid features.
On Android, GlassWire’s help page describes alerts for mobile data and metered Wi-Fi. The publisher says the app has no network connectivity itself and that users’ data and app-usage information do not leave the phone. Treat the Android feature list as Android-specific, not as evidence of an equivalent iPhone app.

NetLimiter is the more control-oriented choice if you want to do more than observe usage. Its features page lists per-application monitoring, bandwidth limits, firewall rules, quotas, and long-term statistics. The official homepage lists Windows 7, 10, 11, and later, and showed stable version 5.3.27.0 dated September 9, 2026 at the time reflected by that page. #1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Sniffnet: verify the specific feature you need
Windows Central’s April 17, 2026 coverage says Sniffnet 1.5 added tools to identify apps and programs using bandwidth. That report makes it a candidate to investigate, not a reason to assume a particular feature set or platform is currently available. Confirm details on the developer’s site before choosing it for a specific monitoring task.
How to monitor internet usage without mistaking device data for household data
- Choose the device you need to inspect. Install a monitor on the Android phone or computer whose traffic you want to understand, and check that the app supports its operating system and device.
- Use the app to identify patterns on that device. Look for per-app activity, history, or alerts that match your goal. Monitoring and controls are different: GlassWire emphasizes visualization and usage breakdowns, while NetLimiter also offers limits and quotas.
- Check the router or ISP record for the household total. A monitor running on one computer does not include traffic from other devices. GlassWire’s guide specifically notes that devices such as an Xbox or Apple TV are not included in that computer’s statistics.
- Compare totals over the same dates. Account for devices that are not running the monitor and use the provider’s own usage record to resolve a bill or plan-allowance question. A device app’s display is not the carrier’s billing meter.
Why might the ISP show more data than a computer monitor?
The two figures can measure different scopes. A computer monitor sees traffic on the computer where it runs; an ISP or router total may represent the household connection, including phones, streaming devices, game consoles, and other computers. Compare matching time periods and include the devices that the computer monitor cannot see. Exact dashboard capabilities depend on the internet provider and router, so check their own interfaces rather than assuming a particular model or service offers a specific report.

What about iPhone?
The available product information here establishes Android-specific GlassWire monitoring, not an iPhone recommendation. Do not assume that Android app features or availability apply to iOS. For an iPhone-specific view, use the usage information available in the device or carrier account and verify the current options for your iOS version and provider.
