The $799 iPhone Duo price is possible only as an effective cost. AT&T advertises up to $1,200 in bill credits against the phone’s $1,999.99 retail price, producing a calculated $799.99 device cost for buyers who meet its trade-in, plan and 36-month financing rules. You still pay tax on the full price at purchase, and the credits arrive over time rather than as an instant discount.
What the “$799 iPhone Duo” deal really means
Apple lists iPhone Duo from $1,999. AT&T’s preorder page lists a $1,999.99 retail price and up to $1,200 in bill credits with an eligible trade-in and qualifying plan. Subtracting the maximum credit leaves $799.99 before taxes and any other charges, which is why advertisements and searches round the figure to $799.
This is not an unconditional $799 price. The credit is distributed across 36 monthly installments, so you must keep the required AT&T service and remain eligible throughout the credit period. Leaving the plan, paying off the phone early or otherwise losing eligibility can stop future credits; confirm the current payoff and cancellation terms at checkout.
Preorder offers compared
| Purchase route | Advertised saving | Effective device price from listed figures | Credit or payment period | Key requirements | Upfront charges and flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple direct | Up to $1,200 with AT&T or $1,000 with T-Mobile, as shown on Apple’s purchase page | Depends on the selected carrier offer, trade-in and eligibility | Carrier financing terms apply | Eligible carrier account and trade-in rules when using a carrier promotion; Apple Trade In is also offered | Review the checkout terms for taxes, financing and whether the selected configuration is sold without carrier obligations |
| AT&T | Up to $1,200 | $799.99 before taxes when the full credit is earned | 36 monthly bill credits | Eligible trade-in valued at $230 or more on AT&T’s product information, a qualifying plan and an eligible installment agreement | Tax is due on the full $1,999.99 price at sale; credits generally tie you to the account until they finish |
| Xfinity Mobile | Up to $1,000 | As low as about $999.99 before taxes if the maximum credit applies | Device payment plan; exact credit schedule should be confirmed at checkout | New Mobile Plus line, qualifying trade-in, device payment plan and Xfinity Internet | Taxes and fees are extra; adding a line and maintaining internet service are required |
How to claim the AT&T offer
- Start on preorder day. Apple, AT&T and Xfinity list Friday, October 16, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time as the preorder opening. Select iPhone Duo and your storage tier.
- Choose the installment option. Select AT&T financing and check that the displayed retail price is $1,999.99 for the base configuration.
- Enter the trade-in. Use an eligible iPhone or other qualifying device. AT&T’s product information says the trade-in must be valued at $230 or more for this promotion; the final value depends on the device assessment.
- Verify the wireless plan. The account must use a qualifying AT&T plan. Read the offer summary to confirm the plan, installment amount and expected monthly credit before submitting.
- Budget for tax. AT&T states that tax is charged on the phone’s full retail price at sale, not on the post-credit $799.99 calculation.
- Keep the account eligible. The maximum saving is earned only after all 36 monthly credits post. Save the order confirmation and check the first few bills for the promotional credit.
Buying through Apple’s store
Apple’s preorder flow shows carrier promotions of up to $1,200 from AT&T or up to $1,000 from T-Mobile, subject to each carrier’s financing, plan and eligibility rules. Apple also offers Apple Trade In. The direct Apple route is useful if you want to compare carrier financing with Apple’s own purchase and trade-in options in one checkout, but the exact amount you receive depends on the device, carrier and storage configuration you select.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Do not treat the headline maximum as a guaranteed discount. Before paying, check the monthly installment, trade-in value, credit duration, taxes and what happens if you change carriers or pay off the balance early.
When Xfinity Mobile is the better fit
Xfinity Mobile advertises up to $1,000 off iPhone Duo. To qualify, the offer requires a new Mobile Plus line, a qualifying trade-in, a device payment plan and Xfinity Internet. Taxes and fees are extra. The promotion can reduce the device cost to roughly $999.99 before those charges when the full credit applies, but it is not a standalone phone discount and is less flexible if you do not already want the required internet and mobile services.

What you are buying
Apple describes iPhone Duo as a foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the inner screen is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display, while the outer screen provides 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro screen area. The phone uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a dual-battery architecture and iOS 27 experiences adapted for different orientations.

New and qualified returning subscribers who purchase iPhone Duo can receive three months of Apple One free, according to Apple. Apple also presents AppleCare+ and AppleCare One as protection choices during purchase; compare their coverage, deductibles and eligibility before adding either plan.
Checklist before you submit a preorder
- Confirm the exact storage tier and its price; the $799.99 calculation applies to the $1,999.99 AT&T retail figure, not automatically to larger capacities.
- Check that your trade-in meets the carrier’s stated condition and value threshold.
- Calculate tax on the full retail price and include activation, plan, line and other fees.
- Record the number of monthly credits and the service period required to receive them.
- Ask what happens to remaining credits if you upgrade, cancel, switch carriers or pay off the phone.
- Compare the promised delivery date with the October 23 general-availability date.
- Review AppleCare+ or AppleCare One only after confirming what accidental-damage and service coverage you need.
Bottom line
AT&T currently offers the lowest advertised effective price: about $799.99 after the maximum $1,200 in 36-month credits. It requires an eligible trade-in, a qualifying plan and patience through the full credit term, with tax due on the entire $1,999.99 price. Xfinity Mobile’s maximum $1,000 saving is a viable alternative only for customers willing to add its required mobile and internet services. Apple’s direct checkout is the simplest way to compare the available carrier promotions and Apple Trade In before preorder inventory tightens.
