Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for the base PlayStation 5 is $649.99, effective April 2, 2026. That price change came before Grand Theft Auto VI’s scheduled November 19, 2026 release on PS5 and PS5 Pro. The $649.99 figure is Sony’s suggested price—not a guarantee of what a retailer currently charges or has in stock.
How much does a PS5 cost in the U.S.?
Sony announced the new U.S. recommended retail prices on March 27, 2026. They took effect April 2, 2026:

These are Sony’s suggested retail prices, not live retailer quotes. A store’s actual price, discount, and stock may differ. Sony said it made the increase because of “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” That is the company’s explanation, not an independently quantified analysis of what caused the price change. Is GTA 6 coming to PS5?
Yes. PlayStation’s U.S. game page lists Grand Theft Auto VI for both PS5 and PS5 Pro. It gives November 19, 2026 as the scheduled release date; as with any scheduled release, that date could change. PlayStation’s GTA VI page is the official platform and date listing.

What the price change means for choosing a console
The announced prices put the Digital Edition $50 below the base PS5, while the PS5 Pro is $250 above the base model. Those differences compare Sony’s suggested prices only; the announcement does not provide a performance comparison or establish which console is the best choice for a particular buyer. Retail discounts and availability can also affect what you pay.
