PC Gamer’s October 7, 2026 Prime Day roundup lists an ASUS TUF Gaming A16 with an RTX 5070 capped at 115 W, a Ryzen 9 8940HX, and a 16-inch 1200p 165 Hz display for $1,599.99 at Best Buy. The shortfall is its 512 GB SSD: that is the main compromise to weigh before buying, and the exact ASUS SKU is not identified in the listing.
What the October 7 deal actually includes
PC Gamer’s deal listing gives this configuration:
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, with a 115 W power limit.
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX.
- Display: 16 inches, 1200p resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate.
- Memory: 16 GB DDR5.
- Storage: 512 GB SSD.
The listing names the TUF Gaming A16 family and these specifications, but not an exact ASUS model number or SKU. That matters because the precise configuration and upgrade options should be confirmed against the product page before you order. PC Gamer’s October 7, 2026 listing is the source for the configuration and deal.

The deal writer’s case for the laptop is the combination of a 115 W RTX 5070 and a 1200p, 165 Hz screen. PC Gamer says the resolution should be manageable for the GPU. That is the writer’s assessment, not a published benchmark result; the listing supplies no independent performance testing to establish frame rates or how the laptop performs in particular games.

PC Gamer’s Andy Edser calls the machine “one of my favorites.” That is his opinion in the deal roundup, rather than a verified comparative test conclusion. The listed processor, memory and screen make the configuration easy to assess on paper, but they do not replace performance results for the exact model.
Is 512 GB enough storage for a gaming laptop?
It may be enough if you keep a small rotation of games installed and regularly remove titles you have finished. It is a tight allowance if you want a large library on the laptop at once, alongside applications and personal files. PC Gamer identifies the 512 GB SSD as the configuration’s main downside and recommends adding a 1 TB drive.

The listing does not identify the SSD format, storage-slot arrangement, whether an extra slot is free, or a compatible part number. Before buying an upgrade, find the exact SKU and check ASUS’s service documentation for its supported drive type and installation options. The deal listing alone does not establish that any particular 1 TB SSD will fit.

PC Gamer listed the laptop at $1,599.99 at Best Buy, against a stated former price of $2,224.99, and described the difference as $625 in savings. Those are the article’s figures dated October 7, 2026, not a live price check. They do not establish today’s price, stock, or whether the same configuration remains available. The reported deal is at Best Buy; the listing does not identify it as an Amazon offer.

PC Gamer also says its roundup selected products with at least a 25% saving at publication time. That is the roundup’s selection criterion, not an independently established discount calculation for this ASUS laptop. The broader PC Gamer October Prime Day gaming laptop guide covers deals across multiple retailers, but its market context does not verify this configuration’s current availability elsewhere.

What to confirm before you buy
- Match the configuration: Check that the product page lists the RTX 5070, Ryzen 9 8940HX, 16 GB DDR5, 1200p 165 Hz screen and 512 GB SSD. Do not rely on the family name alone.
- Record the exact SKU: Use it to verify the manufacturer’s specifications and any storage-upgrade guidance.
- Check current terms: Confirm the retailer, price, stock and return terms on the live listing; the October 7 figures are time-sensitive.
- Plan around storage: Decide whether 512 GB suits your installed-game habits. If you intend to expand it, verify the drive interface and available slot for the exact SKU before purchasing a drive.
