What the Echo Hub does
The Echo Hub is a touchscreen control panel for a smart home, rather than simply a voice assistant speaker. Tom’s Guide’s 2024 product coverage describes an 8-inch display, a customizable dashboard and Matter and Zigbee radios. Those details come from dated product reporting; check Amazon’s current product listing for specifications and availability before purchase.
A dashboard can make frequently used controls visible at a glance. Whether that is useful depends on how you manage your home: a dedicated screen may suit a shared space, while app or voice control may be enough if you do not want another display.
Check the offer before you buy
Amazon’s official Prime Big Deal Days page says the 2026 event runs October 6–7 and ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7. Event deals require Prime membership. The Echo Hub’s reported discount may not remain available for the full event, and the exact current price was not independently confirmed in the deal report.

- Check the displayed price, stock status and whether the deal requires Prime.

Will it work with your smart-home devices?
Do not assume that one hub supports every smart device or protocol. Matter, Thread, Zigbee and Z-Wave are different technologies; support for one does not establish support for the others. Tom’s Guide’s 2024 Echo Hub coverage reports Matter and Zigbee radios, but you should verify current manufacturer specifications and the requirements of the specific devices you plan to use.
Check compatibility device by device, especially for locks, cameras, sensors and thermostats. Also consider the system your household already uses—Alexa, Google/Nest, Apple Home or SmartThings—and whether the products you want to control can work together in that setup. A shared brand name alone is not a guarantee of compatibility.
