Nintendo’s Zelda-themed 40th Anniversary Switch 2 makes the standard console look suddenly ordinary: dark green Joy-Con 2 controllers, pixel-art touches, gold-colored sticks and a black-and-gold dock marked with Triforce imagery. The catch is that the draw is the design, not any announced change in performance—and the reported US premium over the standard console is $20.
What makes the Zelda edition so tempting?
The anniversary design uses a restrained palette rather than simply covering the console in character art. Gizmodo’s visual examination describes dark green Joy-Con 2 controllers with pixel-art details of Zelda and Link, gold-colored sticks and a black-and-gold dock featuring Triforce imagery. The showcase units were behind Plexiglas, so those observations are about appearance, not hands-on feel or extended play.
Nintendo Life also describes dark green Joy-Con 2 controllers and Triforce detailing. Its account adds that the matching Pro Controller has green and black handles, a gold Triforce motif and a Hylian family crest. Together, the console and accessories make the anniversary theme feel coordinated without changing the familiar Switch 2 silhouette.

What does it cost compared with the standard Switch 2?
Gizmodo and Nintendo Life report US launch prices of $519.99 for the Zelda anniversary console and $499.99 for the standard console, a $20 difference. These are reported US manufacturer suggested retail prices, not live retailer offers. The information here does not establish a different game-performance or functionality advantage for the anniversary edition; the documented reason to choose it is its design.

| Product | Reported US price | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console | $519.99 | Reported by Gizmodo and Nintendo Life in 2026; $20 above the reported $499.99 US MSRP for the standard console. |
| Standard Switch 2 console | $499.99 | Reported US MSRP cited by Gizmodo in its 2026 comparison. |
| Zelda anniversary Pro Controller | $99.99 | Reported US MSRP from Gizmodo and Nintendo Life in 2026; sold separately. |
| Zelda anniversary Pro Controller with display stand | $109.99 | Reported US price from Gizmodo in 2026; the stand bundle costs more than the controller alone. |
Are the controller and carrying case included?
No. Nintendo’s 9 September 2026 announcement identifies the anniversary console, Pro Controller and carrying case with screen protector as separate products scheduled for 29 October 2026. It describes them as “all featuring a Triforce design,” but does not say the accessories come in the console box. Budget for them separately if you want the complete matching set.
The Pro Controller has a reported US MSRP of $99.99, or $109.99 with a display stand. No price for the carrying case is established in the reports cited here, so do not assume a bundle price or treat the case as part of the console’s $519.99 price.

- The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition system features a design inspired by the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game, including the familiar Hylian Crest from the Legend of Zelda series on the front of the dock (game not included).
When does it launch, and what is known about stock?
Nintendo announced 29 October 2026 as the release date for the anniversary console and matching accessories. That date is upcoming as of 2 October 2026, the latest reporting cutoff covered here.
Availability reports are regional and dated rather than a reliable picture of current inventory. Nintendo Life reported on 12 September that the UK Nintendo Store showed the collection as sold out and said replenishment updates would come through the Nintendo Store app; its report described the US store as asking customers to check back soon. On 2 October, Gizmodo reported that Nintendo told its writer stock would be replenished at launch. That report does not establish inventory in every market or guarantee a particular retailer will have stock, so check the store for your region.

- Glossy white dock with Hylian illustrations
- Hardware with designs from the game
- 7-inch OLED screen. Enjoy vivid colors and crisp contrast with a screen that makes colors pop
- Freely angle the system’s wide, adjustable stand for comfortable viewing in Tabletop mode
- Use the dock’s LAN port when playing in TV mode for a wired internet connection (LAN cable sold separately)
Who should want it—and who should pass?
If the green-and-gold treatment, pixel-art nods and coordinated accessories are the reason you would enjoy owning this particular Switch 2, a reported $20 US MSRP premium over the standard console is a modest design premium. It is also the clearest case for choosing this edition: the cited announcements and coverage do not establish an exclusive performance benefit.
If you mainly want a Switch 2 to play games, the standard console is the more direct choice at its reported US MSRP. And if the controller or case is the part you covet most, remember that both are separately sold products rather than bonuses included with the anniversary console.
