Account for cold rooms

Plan for tank emptying and drainage
A removable bucket is simple to install, but most units stop when the bucket is full, interrupting moisture removal until someone empties it. A continuous-drain hose can send water to a suitable floor drain or sump, if the unit supports it and the hose can be routed safely. What ENERGY STAR certification tells you—and what it does not
ENERGY STAR Version 6.0 took effect October 1, 2025. For portable dehumidifiers, its minimum integrated energy factor (IEF) depends on capacity: 1.70 L/kWh for up to 25 pints/day, 2.01 L/kWh from 25.01 to 50 pints/day, and 3.30 L/kWh at 50 pints/day or more. Verify a specific model’s current certification and applicable capacity tier in the ENERGY STAR efficiency criteria; the criteria alone do not establish the status of each model listed above.
Do not rely on older references to Version 5.0 as the current standard. AirCareGuide’s 2026 guide offers different alternatives—a 50-pint Midea Cube, a 13-pint Ivation desiccant unit, and a 50-pint hOmeLabs model—but says it did not test those products in its own bedrooms. Its recommendations therefore do not replace RTINGS’ bedroom-specific lab testing, and differing capacity labels should not be treated as an apples-to-apples bedroom performance guarantee.
