A five-quarter chart highlighted by The Motley Fool makes a bullish point about Nvidia: after four of five earnings reports, the stock initially fell, then recovered those losses and rose further before the next report. At the same time, NVIDIA’s reported year-over-year revenue growth accelerated from 56% to 106% across the periods shown. That is evidence of strong recent business momentum—not proof that earnings reactions follow a dependable pattern or that the shares cannot fall.
What the chart says about Nvidia’s earnings reactions
In an October 5, 2026 article, Rick Munarriz of The Motley Fool presents a chart of NVIDIA (NVDA) share-price movements around five earnings-report moments. He reads it as showing initial declines after the first four reports, followed by a recovery of those losses and additional gains before the next report; the fifth report was followed by an immediate rise. The article credits YCharts for the chart data. This description is the author’s interpretation of the chart, not an independently recalculated price series.
The pattern is striking, but its limits matter. Five events are a small sample, and the chart does not establish that earnings reports caused the moves, explain what else affected the stock, or show that a future post-earnings decline will reverse. It is a snapshot of what happened in that interval, not a trading rule or a forecast.
Revenue growth accelerated across the periods shown
The article pairs the price chart with a sequence of quarterly revenue-growth rates. NVIDIA’s fiscal quarters are not calendar quarters, so the labels below retain the company’s fiscal-year notation.
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
| Fiscal quarter | Year-over-year revenue growth | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Q2 FY2026 | 56% | NVIDIA, August 27, 2025 |
| Q3 FY2026 | 63% | The Motley Fool article, October 5, 2026; not independently confirmed against an NVIDIA release here |
| Q4 FY2026 | 73% | NVIDIA, February 25, 2026 |
| Q1 FY2027 | 85% | NVIDIA, May 20, 2026 |
| Q2 FY2027 | 106% | NVIDIA, August 26, 2026 |
The sequence shows reported growth accelerating across these five quarters. It does not by itself tell investors whether future growth will continue at that pace, whether it will meet market expectations, or how much of that growth is already reflected in the share price.
What NVIDIA reported in Q2 FY2027
In its August 26, 2026 release, NVIDIA reported $96.2 billion in total revenue for Q2 FY2027, up 106% year over year. Data Center revenue was $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. These are results for the reported quarter, rather than projections.

The company also reported that $99.0 billion remained under its share-repurchase authorization at quarter end. That balance is not the same as cash already spent buying shares. Munarriz’s article refers to an additional $150 billion authorization; an authorization permits repurchases but does not establish how much or when the company will actually buy. The article also cites analyst forward earnings estimates, which are forecasts, not NVIDIA’s realized earnings.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in the release, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue,” the company’s Q2 FY2027 announcement. That is management’s characterization of the market. The release also cautions that statements about outlook, market growth, AI industries, and future products are forward-looking and subject to risks and uncertainties.

What the chart does not settle for investors
Revenue growth and historical share-price recoveries can support a bullish case, but they do not answer every question behind a bearish one. A stock can rise after past earnings declines and still be vulnerable to a future drop if expectations are high, growth slows, customer spending changes, or competition intensifies. The chart alone does not assess valuation or establish the durability of AI-related demand.
- Business performance: NVIDIA’s reported revenue and Data Center figures show substantial recent growth. They describe past results, not a guarantee of future demand.
- Expectations: Share prices respond to results relative to what investors expected, not just to whether revenue increased. Analyst estimates cited in commentary remain estimates.
- Capital returns: A repurchase authorization is permission to buy shares, not a promise that the full amount will be spent.
- Risk and attribution: The Motley Fool article is bullish commentary. It discloses that Munarriz owns NVIDIA shares and that The Motley Fool holds and recommends NVIDIA.
Readers who want to check the company’s results can use NVIDIA’s financial reports index, which lists releases and other investor materials. To evaluate the historical chart itself, look at the underlying market-data series and define the measurement window consistently; a visually persuasive selection of five reporting periods should not be treated as a full risk analysis.
