Thailand revoked the citizenship of Israeli businessman Ariel Blustein by an order reportedly signed on 1 October 2026, according to contemporaneous Thai news reports. Officials reportedly cited his use of an Israeli passport after naturalization and alleged that he failed to disclose Uruguayan nationality in his application. The reported dates put the order roughly seven and a half years after his naturalization notice—not exactly six years.
What happened?
Bangkok Post and Thai Rath reported that Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed the revocation order on 1 October 2026. Bangkok Post identified Blustein as a Bangkok-based gem and jewellery entrepreneur. Thai Rath reported that the ministry cited Section 19, paragraph one, of Thailand’s Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (1965); it said Blustein had naturalized under Sections 10 and 11(1). The primary order was not available in the reporting, so the section reference should be treated as the news outlets’ account rather than an independently verified reading of the order. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath
The reports describe a citizenship revocation, not a visa cancellation. The available accounts do not report a criminal charge, arrest, deportation, or court judgment in Blustein’s case. They also do not include a response from Blustein, so the ministry’s account should not be presented as an admission or as a finding already upheld by a court. The Jerusalem Post
Why did officials reportedly revoke his citizenship?
Use of an Israeli passport
According to the ministry’s reasoning as reported by Thai outlets, Blustein travelled to Hong Kong using an Israeli passport on 14 June 2019, the day his first Thai identity card was issued, and returned to Thailand on 23 June using that passport. Officials reportedly relied on this travel after his naturalization. The reports do not provide Blustein’s explanation or independently establish all details of the travel. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath

Alleged nondisclosure of Uruguayan nationality
The ministry also reportedly said Blustein held Uruguayan nationality, had used a Uruguayan passport for overseas travel, and did not disclose that nationality in his naturalization application. This is the ministry’s reported allegation and rationale; the available reporting does not establish that a court independently adjudicated it. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath
When did the key events occur?
| Reported date | Event |
|---|---|
| 3 April 2019 | Blustein’s naturalization notice reportedly appeared in the Royal Gazette. Bangkok Post |
| 14 June 2019 | His first Thai identity card was reportedly issued; officials said he travelled to Hong Kong on an Israeli passport that day. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath |
| 23 June 2019 | He reportedly returned to Thailand using the Israeli passport. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath |
| 1 October 2026 | Anutin reportedly signed the citizenship-revocation order. Bangkok Post and Thai Rath |
The interval from the reported naturalization notice to the reported order is about seven and a half years. The Jerusalem Post’s 3 October 2026 headline described it as six years after naturalization, but that is not the exact elapsed time indicated by the reported dates. The Jerusalem Post spells his name “Ariel Blushstein”; Bangkok Post and Thai Rath use “Ariel Blustein.” This article follows the latter spelling; the Gazette entry would be needed to confirm the authoritative form. The Jerusalem Post
What does the law say, and can he challenge the order?
Thai Rath attributed the order to Section 19, paragraph one, of the Nationality Act. A 2024 Constitutional Court ruling summary discusses revocation provisions in Sections 17 and 18, including inquiry procedures and access to a competent court, and distinguishes nationality acquired by birth from nationality acquired by other routes. That summary is general legal context: it does not determine Blustein’s case, explain the application of the reported Section 19 citation, or establish that he has challenged the order. Constitutional Court of Thailand
The court summary states that revocation processes under the provisions it discusses involve an inquiry and that affected individuals may bring a case before a competent court. It does not show whether those provisions govern this particular order or whether Blustein has begun any review. A definitive legal account would require the Royal Gazette order and the current consolidated text of the Act. Constitutional Court of Thailand

How does this fit Thailand’s citizenship review?
Thailand’s Public Relations Department reported on 15 September 2026 that deputy interior ministers had ordered a review of citizenship-application procedures after investigations uncovered cases involving alleged nominee arrangements. That provides broader context for scrutiny of citizenship applications, but the available sources do not establish that the review caused or specifically targeted the decision concerning Blustein.
