No available evidence establishes which of ThonburianTTS, OmniVoice, or ElevenLabs sounds most human in Thai. ThonburianTTS has a Thai-focused peer-reviewed evaluation; OmniVoice is a multilingual voice-cloning project; and ElevenLabs provides Thai generation through web and developer tools. Those differences can help you choose what to try, but they are not a controlled, same-prompt listening comparison.
What “most human” should mean for Thai TTS
A single score cannot answer whether speech sounds human. Separate the qualities that matter for your use:
- Intelligibility and pronunciation: Can native Thai listeners understand the intended words, tones, names, numbers, and code-switching?
- Naturalness and prosody: Do pacing, phrasing, emphasis, and pitch movement sound plausible, rather than merely understandable?
- Speaker similarity and stability: For voice cloning, does the output retain the reference speaker without accent drift across short and long passages?
- Voice fit: Does the voice suit the target accent, register, and emotional style?
- Workflow: Can you use the system in a browser, through an API, or locally, and does it provide the controls your production needs?
A system can do well on one dimension and less well on another. A transcription error rate, a naturalness estimate, and a human listener’s preference are not interchangeable measures.

What the evidence says about each system
ThonburianTTS: Thai-focused research
Mahidol University researchers introduced ThonburianTTS in a peer-reviewed 2025 conference contribution. The system fine-tunes E2-TTS and F5-TTS using Thai-script and International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions. The study evaluates word, syllable, and character error rates, speech naturalness using MOSNet, speaker similarity using SIM-O, and synthesis speed. Read the ThonburianTTS study.

The authors’ best reported model was F5-TTS trained on Thai script. Its results were WER 25.72%, SylER 14.17%, CER 8.70%, MOSNet 3.9451, and SIM-O 88.30%. These figures describe that study’s evaluation setup; they are not scores directly comparable to results from the other systems here.
The paper reports that IPA-based models achieved comparable or higher naturalness and speaker-similarity scores but lower accuracy-related metrics than the Thai-script model. It also reports improved accuracy when the number of function evaluations was increased. In that study, ThonburianTTS outperformed MMS-TTS and PyThaiTTS on intelligibility and speaker similarity. Those findings do not establish that it sounds more human than OmniVoice or ElevenLabs.

OmniVoice: a multilingual voice-cloning project
The k2-fsa project presents OmniVoice as a multilingual voice-cloning TTS system. Its broad multilingual framing may make it worth considering when cloning and multilingual workflows are central to your project. However, language coverage by itself does not establish Thai pronunciation or naturalness, and the cited evidence does not supply a directly comparable Thai human-evaluation score against the other two systems. See the OmniVoice project repository.
ElevenLabs: a managed web and developer workflow
ElevenLabs offers Thai text-to-speech through a product workflow that includes web, API, and SDK access. Its product page lists uses including podcasts, audiobooks, gaming, video voiceovers, and accessibility. See ElevenLabs’ Thai text-to-speech page. Its model documentation lists Thai as a supported language, but support does not mean every available voice is native to Thai or equally strong in that language. Check the supported-language documentation.

ElevenLabs’ own guidance says voice choice and the language represented in voice samples affect output. It recommends a voice cloned from speech in the target language; a voice not trained on that language may carry an accent or drift toward a similar language. The guide documents speed control from 0.7 to 1.2 and warns that extreme speeds may reduce quality. These are vendor instructions, not independent Thai listening-test results. Read the text-to-speech guide.
How to choose a system to try first
| Your priority | Reasonable starting point | What that choice does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Thai-specific evaluation | Try ThonburianTTS first: its published study is specifically about Thai and reports Thai-focused metrics. | It does not prove a win in perceived naturalness over the other two. |
| Multilingual voice cloning | Consider OmniVoice as a project framed around multilingual voice cloning. | Multilingual scope does not guarantee natural-sounding Thai or a stable clone. |
| Managed web or developer workflow | Consider ElevenLabs, which documents Thai generation through web and developer interfaces. | Availability does not prove that a particular voice sounds native or wins listener preference. |
This is a use-case guide, not a quality ranking. Pick the option that fits your workflow, then judge the actual voice and output with listeners representative of your audience.

How to make a fair Thai listening test
If naturalness is the deciding factor, compare generated audio rather than inferring a winner from feature descriptions or unrelated scores. Use identical Thai passages that test different failure modes:
- A short conversational sentence for rhythm and everyday phrasing.
- A longer paragraph for pacing and consistency.
- Proper names and numerals for pronunciation.
- Punctuation and Thai-English code-switching for phrasing and language transitions.
Match voice and reference conditions as closely as possible, and state where the systems’ workflows prevent a like-for-like setup. Ask several native Thai listeners to rate intelligibility, naturalness, and speaker similarity separately, without telling them which system made each sample. Record the model or version, date, voice, prompt, and settings so another person can interpret the result. A small informal test can guide your own choice, but it should not be presented as representative research.

A separate 2026 JaiTTS benchmark shows that a structured native-listener comparison is possible: JTS-AI-Team reports 20 native Thai evaluators, 30 speakers, and 400 pairwise comparisons. That benchmark compares JaiTTS-v1.0 with Eleven v3 and Speech-2.8-HD, not ThonburianTTS, OmniVoice, and ElevenLabs as a three-way test. It therefore offers no winner for this comparison. See the JaiTTS benchmark repository.
