To connect a Tesla Model 3 to Wi-Fi, open Controls > Wi-Fi on the touchscreen, select a network, enter its password if prompted, and tap Confirm. The car saves the network and reconnects when it is in range. Tesla recommends Wi-Fi for software and map updates, but public networks that require a web login are not supported.
Connect your Model 3 to Wi-Fi
- On the touchscreen, tap Controls > Wi-Fi. The car scans for nearby networks.
- Tap the network you want. If it is not listed, use the option to add a network manually.
- Enter the password if required, then tap Confirm.
- Check Known Wi-Fi Networks. A green check beside the network indicates a successful connection.
These principal steps are the same in the Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manuals for 2024-and-newer and 2017–2023 vehicles. Menu wording can vary with software version or region; if your screen differs, check the Wi-Fi page and the in-car owner’s manual. Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual: Wi-Fi
Tesla writes: “To ensure fast, reliable delivery of software and map updates, Tesla recommends leaving Model 3 connected to a Wi-Fi network whenever possible (for example, when parked at home).” Wi-Fi can be faster than cellular and can help where cellular service is limited, but actual performance depends on the network and signal.

Choose a network that works where you park
| Option | Best suited to | Important considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Home Wi-Fi | Regular connection while the car is parked within the network’s coverage | Signal strength at the parking location matters. If the car cannot see the network or signal is weak, improve coverage near where it is parked. |
| Phone hotspot | Connecting where home Wi-Fi is unavailable or as an alternative network | Carrier fees and restrictions may apply. To keep the hotspot connection active after shifting into Drive, select Remain Connected in Drive after connecting; this does not remove carrier costs or ensure coverage. |
| Public Wi-Fi with a web login | Not supported when the network requires a custom sign-in portal or terms acceptance | Choose another network or use a hotspot instead. Model 3 does not support captive portal sign-ins. |
If more than one saved network is in range, Model 3 connects to the one it most recently used. Tesla’s manual describes Wi-Fi as a useful data connection, not a guarantee that every network will be faster than cellular. Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual: Wi-Fi and connection limits

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If your network is missing or the signal is weak
- Look at the Wi-Fi icon’s signal bars. Low bars indicate a weak connection; try parking closer to the access point.
- If a known network does not appear where you normally park, Tesla suggests moving closer to the access point or considering a Wi-Fi range extender. The relevant check is whether the signal reaches the car’s usual parking location; an extender is optional, not required to connect the car.
- For 5 GHz Wi-Fi, supported channels depend on region. Check Tesla’s current regional channel table and your router’s selected channel rather than assuming a channel supported in one market works everywhere. Tesla DIY Manual: regional Wi-Fi channels
Troubleshoot a Model 3 Wi-Fi connection
Try Tesla’s recommended checks in order. They may help identify or resolve a connection problem, but they are not guaranteed fixes.
- Check signal bars. If the signal is weak, improve the car’s proximity to the access point.
- Restart the touchscreen. Follow Tesla’s documented touchscreen restart procedure in the owner’s manual.
- Forget and reconnect. Open Controls > Wi-Fi, select the network, choose Forget Network, then connect again from the available or known networks.
- Test another network. This helps determine whether the problem is limited to one network.
- Review diagnostics. Open Wi-Fi > Diagnostics for connection details and improvement tips. During a software update download or installation, diagnostics is also available below the progress bar.
If the issue continues across networks after these checks, follow Tesla support or service guidance rather than assuming a particular hardware fault. Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual: Wi-Fi troubleshooting
