Emma Memma and Elvin Melvin have visited Teach, Speak, Hear (TSH) to meet children and families ahead of Telethon 2026, scheduled for 17–18 October at RAC Arena. The visit brought the performers’ sign-supported children’s show into focus for families whose children have hearing loss or other support needs.
What Emma Memma’s visit meant to the children
Caitlin Vinci’s report in The West Australian, published 3 October 2026, describes five-year-old Imogen Duffy’s excitement about meeting Emma Memma. Imogen was identified with moderate hearing loss at birth. Her father, Liam, said she had been looking forward to the meeting and described TSH as a supportive setting where she had become positive about wearing her hearing aid. Those are the family’s experiences, not a claim about clinical outcomes for other children.
After meeting Emma, Imogen said: “Emma Memma makes me feel happy, brave, kind, smart, and loved.” Her family had been reading Emma Memma books while getting ready for the visit; the report does not identify a particular title.
The report also says Saanvi Sanichurwah watches Emma Memma and copies the moves with her sister. Her father, Sunjay, spoke about her enthusiasm. The report identifies Saanvi as having been diagnosed at birth with Branchio-Oto-Renal syndrome.

How signing is part of Emma Memma’s performance
Vinci’s report says Emma Memma’s performance incorporates Auslan and key word sign. Emma said more dancers who sign are joining the team this year: “This time, we’re bringing over our biggest Emma Memma team yet. We’ve got more of our dancers coming who also sign as part of the show.”
That offers a concrete reason the visit may resonate with families at TSH: signing is part of the performance itself, rather than simply a topic discussed during the visit. The report does not establish any therapeutic or clinical effect from the show.

RAC Arena says event timings are subject to change. Check its official Telethon Weekend 2026 event page close to your visit for schedules, bag rules and entry details.

Why Emma Memma says Telethon matters in WA
Emma told The West Australian that returning to Perth for Telethon is a highlight. She recalled: “Being from the East coast, we never really understood how big and important this was for children right across the State,” she said.

She also described the event as “like the biggest, giant, most exciting sleepover where everyone has a ball and raises heaps of money” when explaining why the team was thrilled to return. Elvin Melvin said the WA Telethon community feels “just like family,” adding: “Meeting all the different children, seeing the happy expressions on their faces, and watching their reactions is just great.”
