Telegram notifications on iPhone are controlled in three places: Telegram’s notification and chat settings, iOS notification settings, and Focus or Scheduled Summary. Check them in that order. A missing alert, a silent alert, a delayed alert, and a hidden message preview are different problems, so the right fix depends on which one you’re seeing.
First identify what is behaving differently
Note whether the issue affects one conversation or all of Telegram, and whether the problem is a missing alert, no sound, a delay, or message content that is hidden or unexpectedly visible. A mute on one chat points to a different control than an iPhone setting that applies to the app.

Check Telegram’s notification settings and the affected chat
In Telegram, open Settings → Notifications and Sounds and check that notifications are enabled for the relevant category. Then open the affected contact or group and check whether it is muted. A muted chat can explain why one conversation behaves differently even when other Telegram alerts work.

Check iPhone’s notification permission and alert presentation
On iPhone, go to Settings → Notifications → Telegram. Check Allow Notifications, then review the available alert locations—Lock Screen, Notification Center, and banners—and the sound setting. iOS lets you configure notification presentation for individual apps, so a change here can affect Telegram broadly rather than just one chat. If notifications are allowed but you do not see a banner or hear a sound, inspect those presentation options before changing preview privacy. Menu names and available options can vary with iOS and app versions.
When alerts arrive but previews look wrong
Show Previews controls whether notification content is visible; it does not turn notification delivery on or off. In iPhone notification settings, the choices may include Always, When Unlocked, or Never. Where supported, an app-specific setting can also affect previews.
Telegram has a reported, open issue involving per-chat preview rules and certain content, including stickers, custom emoji, or media. The report lists Telegram iOS 12.4 (32252) on an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 26.2.1. Check Focus and Scheduled Summary for delays
Focus can delay notification delivery to reduce interruptions. Apple Support explains: “When you use Focus, it delays the delivery of notifications on iPhone to prevent interruptions.” Check whether a Focus is active or scheduled, and whether its settings allow Telegram notifications.
Also check whether Telegram is included in Scheduled Summary. Notifications routed to a summary may arrive there instead of appearing immediately. Apple describes both features in its iPhone notification guide.

Try Telegram’s alert reset only if the basic checks fail
Telegram’s FAQ suggests resetting its iPhone alert style. Treat this as a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix; the FAQ itself notes that it may contain outdated information, and current menu wording can differ.

- Open Settings → Notifications → Telegram on iPhone and set the alert style to None, if that option is available.
- Reopen Telegram.
- Return to the Telegram notification settings and restore the alert style you want, such as banners.
If the relevant labels or options are absent, do not assume your iPhone is malfunctioning; check the current iOS settings and Telegram version instead. Telegram’s documented steps are in its notification FAQ.
