The Teco TPO26CFWAO is a cooling-only 2.6 kW portable air conditioner with fan and dehumidifying modes, Wi-Fi control and a supplied window kit. Its main practical constraint is installation: it must exhaust hot air outside through the included duct. Publicly visible information from CHOICE does not reveal its test results, so the available evidence supports a specification-and-fit assessment, not an independent performance verdict.
What the Teco TPO26CFWAO offers
TECO Australia lists the TPO26CFWAO as a portable air conditioner for medium-sized rooms, but does not provide a quantified room-area recommendation on the reviewed product page. A 2.6 kW capacity alone cannot establish how well it will cool a particular room; room size, heat load, climate and installation all matter. It cools only: this is not a reverse-cycle model and does not provide heating.

These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements. In particular, 64 dB(A) is a sound-power figure; it is not an in-room noise reading and does not by itself predict how loud the unit will seem where you sit or sleep. The 22.5 kg listed weight likewise does not establish how easy it is to move in practice. TECO’s Australian product page also lists cooling, fan and dehumidifying modes, two fan speeds, sleep mode, a 24-hour timer, casters, washable filter and remote control.

Installation is the key fit question
Like other single-hose portable air conditioners, this model needs to send hot exhaust air outdoors. TECO’s June 2024 manual identifies an exhaust duct, hose connector, window-kit adapter and window kit among the supplied accessories; it also lists a drain hose. Plan for a window or other suitable opening and enough space to position the unit and route the duct without obstructing it. The product page lists a 1.5 m exhaust duct.

The manual warns against replacing or extending the exhaust hose: doing so can reduce efficiency or cause the unit to shut down. That makes window layout and the supplied duct’s reach more important than simply having a nearby outlet for power. The manual’s installation and accessory guidance is in the TPO26CFWAO user manual.
Controls, Wi-Fi and upkeep
App control
TECO says Wi-Fi control is available through the Smart Life app. The manual’s setup instructions require a permanent connection to the home router and recommend placing the appliance about five metres from the router during configuration. These are the manufacturer’s stated requirements; current app compatibility was not independently tested.

Filter cleaning and drainage
The manual directs owners to clean the air filter every two weeks, rinse it, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. It also provides instructions for drainage and long-term storage. Read those instructions for the applicable operating conditions rather than assuming the unit never needs water management.

CHOICE has a model page titled “Teco TPO26CFWAO review.” The publicly visible page lists 2.6 kW capacity, 22.5 kg weight, R290 refrigerant, a 150 cm duct and a window kit, and displayed a price of $599 when accessed on 7 October 2026. TECO’s listed sound-power and cooling figures can help compare specifications, but they cannot substitute for independent, room-specific performance results. The evidence available here therefore does not support calling this model especially quiet, especially effective, or a strong performer relative to competing units.

TECO’s Australian portable range includes a 2.05 kW TPO20CFAO, this 2.6 kW cooling-only model, 3.5 kW models including a reverse-cycle option, and 4.1 kW and 4.2 kW products. The range varies in capacity and features such as heating, inverter operation, voice control, fan speeds and filtration. If you need heating, compare reverse-cycle models; if you are considering a higher-capacity unit, check the specific model’s installation needs and dimensions rather than assuming capacity alone decides suitability. TECO’s category page lists its portable models and features: portable air conditioners.

Safety and service
The unit uses R290 refrigerant. TECO’s manual says components are designed for propane and replacement parts must be identical. It limits work involving the gas system to authorized service personnel, stating: “Only an Authorised Service Person can carry out servicing or repairs to this appliance.” Do not attempt refrigerant-system repairs yourself; contact authorized service for that work.
