TeamT5 says attackers exploited CVE-2024-7694 in 2024 against a few high-profile customers using its ThreatSonar Anti-Ransomware product. The vulnerability allowed malicious file uploads that could lead to command execution, but the described attack required administrator privileges. CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) listing brought the issue wider attention in February 2026; the likely Chinese APT attribution is TeamT5’s assessment as reported by SecurityWeek, not an independently established finding.
What is CVE-2024-7694?
CVE-2024-7694 affects TeamT5 ThreatSonar Anti-Ransomware, an endpoint security platform. In a July 2024 notice, TeamT5 said versions 3.4.5 and earlier were affected by vulnerabilities that, under specific conditions, could let an unauthorized user with administrator privileges achieve remote code execution. The flaw involved inadequate validation of uploaded file content: an attacker with administrator privileges could upload a malicious file and execute arbitrary system commands, according to the TWCERT/CC advisory language quoted by SecurityWeek.
The administrator-privilege requirement is important. The available incident reporting does not establish how attackers obtained those privileges or whether they chained another vulnerability. CVE-2024-7694 should not be described as an unauthenticated flaw that alone gave an outsider initial access.

Yes. TeamT5 told SecurityWeek that attacks occurred in 2024 and affected only a few high-profile customers. SecurityWeek reported on February 24, 2026 that CISA had added the vulnerability to its KEV catalog, bringing the historical exploitation case to wider attention. The report characterizes the activity as a targeted supply-chain operation based on TeamT5’s investigation.

TeamT5 also said the actor used a large pool of addresses to obscure its identity. A spokesperson told SecurityWeek: “The actor used hundreds of IP addresses, mostly compromised devices in Taiwan, to hide their real identity.” This is the vendor’s account of the operation, not an independently verified measurement.
Who does TeamT5 believe was responsible?
TeamT5 assessed the attacks as likely involving the groups it calls Slime57 and Slime62, and as a highly coordinated, targeted supply-chain operation. This attribution is TeamT5’s assessment relayed by SecurityWeek; the available reporting does not independently establish that these actors carried out the exploitation. The reported use of compromised devices to route traffic likewise comes from the vendor.

Which versions were affected, and what did TeamT5 patch?
TeamT5’s July 2024 notice identifies ThreatSonar Anti-Ransomware 3.4.5 and earlier as affected by vulnerabilities that could enable remote code execution under specific conditions. The notice says the cloud version was patched on June 5, 2024, and directs on-premises customers to apply the patch. SecurityWeek separately reports that the flaw was fixed in August 2024. Those dates may describe different fixes or milestones, so they should not be treated as one universal patch date.

TeamT5 later said all affected customers had migrated off vulnerable versions and that no customer systems remained in service on an affected release. That is the vendor’s statement about current customer status; it does not replace checking the version and patch state of an individual deployment.

What should ThreatSonar customers do?
- On-premises deployment: Check the installed ThreatSonar Anti-Ransomware version and confirm that the applicable TeamT5 patch has been applied. The vendor’s July 2024 notice directs on-premises customers to apply the patch.
- Cloud service: TeamT5 said its cloud version was patched June 5, 2024. Confirm service status with the vendor if you need assurance about a particular tenant or account.
- Incident review: If a deployment ran a vulnerable version, review relevant administrative accounts and logs for unexpected uploads or command execution. The sources do not specify indicators of compromise or a forensic checklist, so do not infer that a clean update alone establishes whether a system was previously accessed.
SecurityWeek reported that CISA set March 10, 2026 as a deadline for federal agencies to address the issue. The exact deadline and agency scope were not independently confirmed against CISA’s primary catalog record here; agencies should consult the official KEV entry and applicable federal requirements.
