Tata Consultancy Services added 4,258 employees on a net basis in Q2 FY27, the July–September 2026 quarter. The figure, reported by Moneycontrol from TCS’s quarterly fact sheet, marks a third consecutive quarter of net headcount growth; it is not a count of gross hires or open jobs.

How many employees did TCS add in Q2 FY27?

TCS recorded 4,258 net employee additions in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, according to Moneycontrol’s October 8 report based on the company’s quarterly fact sheet. TCS’s results release, issued the same day, reported a quarter-end workforce of 598,056.

“Net additions” means the workforce grew by that amount after entries and departures were taken into account. It does not mean TCS hired only 4,258 people, nor does it indicate that 4,258 vacancies are currently available.

How does Q2 compare with the previous quarter?

Moneycontrol reported 9,279 net additions in Q1 FY27, followed by 4,258 in Q2. The Q2 increase was therefore smaller than Q1’s, while extending the reported run of quarterly net headcount growth to three quarters.

The additions figures are reported as net changes, not gross hires. The available figures do not provide a consistent fresher-hiring count for either quarter.

What TCS reported about its workforce

TCS’s October 8 results release reported LTM attrition of 13.3% for IT Services. LTM means the trailing twelve months; this is a different measure from a single-quarter headcount change and applies specifically to IT Services.

The company also said learning hours rose 17% sequentially to 17.1 million. Chief HR Officer Sudeep Kunnumal said, “We continue to build a future-ready workforce through upskilling our employees and hiring top talent.” These disclosures describe workforce development and attrition, but do not specify which roles or locations accounted for the net additions.

Do the additions show that TCS is hiring because of AI or tech layoffs?

No. The reported net additions establish that TCS’s headcount increased; they do not establish why. The cited TCS results and Moneycontrol report do not show that AI adoption, concern about AI, or layoffs elsewhere in the technology sector caused the increase.

They also do not identify 4,258 new roles, a fresher intake, current openings, or a future hiring target. Readers considering a job at TCS should check the company’s current careers listings rather than interpreting a quarterly net-addition figure as a vacancy announcement.
