TCL’s RayNeo Air 3s are video-display glasses that project a simulated 201-inch screen into your view. The figure describes virtual viewing scale—not a physically 201-inch panel—and the glasses still need a phone, laptop, game console or other source that can send video over USB-C DisplayPort (DP) Alt Mode or through a suitable adapter.

What the RayNeo Air 3s actually are

RayNeo, a business incubated within TCL Electronics, launched the Air 3s series in 2025. RayNeo presents the Air 3s as display glasses: they act as a private external monitor for another device rather than as a standalone computer or a fully interactive augmented-reality headset.

That distinction matters. The glasses do not replace a phone or computer, run your apps independently, or create a physical cinema-sized screen. They receive a video signal and place a virtual image in front of your eyes.

What “201-inch screen” means

RayNeo’s 201-inch description is a simulated viewing-size claim. It expresses how large the virtual image appears at a stated viewing distance; it is not the diagonal measurement of glass or a panel in the frame. An independent TechRadar review of the separate Air 3s Pro uses the same convention to explain the marketing figure, but it should not be treated as hands-on testing of the Air 3s itself.

Check video compatibility before buying

The most important buying question is not whether your device has a USB-C socket. It is whether that socket carries DisplayPort video.

  1. Identify the exact source device. Note its model and operating system rather than relying on a product-family name.
  2. Look for video-output support. Check the specifications or support documentation for “DisplayPort Alt Mode,” “DP over USB-C” or equivalent wording.
  3. Confirm how output is enabled. RayNeo’s Air 3s FAQ says: “Please check your device’s specifications or manufacturer information to ensure it supports DisplayPort (DP) via USB-C and how to enable it.”
  4. Connect with a full-featured USB-C cable. A cable designed only for charging or low-speed data may not carry video.
  5. Test the source before depending on the glasses. Verify that the device can drive an external display and that its power settings do not disable the output.

A USB-C-shaped port alone does not establish compatibility. Some phones, tablets and computers use USB-C only for charging or data.

When you need an adapter

If your source provides HDMI rather than USB-C DisplayPort, an HDMI-to-USB-C route may be possible. RayNeo discusses compatible HDMI-to-USB-C adapters and official accessories, but the correct choice depends on the source device, the adapter’s direction of conversion, power requirements and the glasses’ input expectations.

  • Check the exact HDMI source type and resolution.
  • Confirm that the adapter converts HDMI output to USB-C video input; many USB-C-to-HDMI products work in the opposite direction.
  • Verify whether the adapter needs external power.
  • Confirm support for the refresh rate you intend to use, especially if you want 120 Hz gaming.
  • Use RayNeo’s compatibility guidance for the specific accessory rather than assuming every adapter will work.

Streaming, HDCP and content limits

RayNeo says the glasses and its official accessories support HDCP for licensed streaming content. That is a company compatibility claim, not a guarantee that every streaming app, source device, adapter and regional service will behave identically.

Playback can still be affected by an app’s device restrictions, operating-system support, adapter behavior or the service available in your country. Treat HDCP support as a requirement addressed by the hardware, not as proof that every content combination has been tested.

Prescription use and fit

RayNeo lists a sample prescription-lens frame among the box contents and identifies Lensology as its official optical partner. The product page also gives a prescription-correction range. If you need corrective lenses, check the current range, ordering process, regional availability and suitability directly with RayNeo or the named optical partner before purchase.

Who the Air 3s suits

Good fit for a private large display

  • People who want a monitor-like image for films, games or a laptop while keeping the display close to their eyes.
  • Travelers who cannot carry a large monitor.
  • Users whose phone, tablet, computer or console already supports compatible video output.

Less suitable for a standalone computing experience

  • Buyers expecting built-in apps, battery-powered independent operation or a complete mixed-reality environment.
  • Anyone whose source device lacks USB-C DisplayPort and who does not want to manage an adapter setup.
  • Users seeking verified clinical benefits for eye strain; the cited dimming and TÜV claims do not establish that outcome.

How to compare the Air 3s with other display glasses

Use the same checks for every competing model rather than comparing virtual-screen numbers alone.

Comparison question Why it matters
Does the source support DP video over USB-C? Determines whether the glasses can connect directly.
What resolution and refresh rates are supported? Affects text clarity, motion and gaming compatibility.
What brightness and field of view are specified? Indicates the manufacturer’s intended image size and visibility, though figures may not be independently measured.
How does the frame fit, and are prescription lenses available? Determines comfort and whether corrective eyewear can be integrated.
Is it a simple external display or an interactive AR device? Prevents buying video glasses when you need cameras, spatial interaction or onboard computing.

The available sources do not establish a comprehensive independent comparison across competing models, so published figures should not be treated as a complete ranking.

What is—and is not—established about performance

RayNeo publishes the Air 3s resolution, refresh mode, brightness, field of view and weight listed above. No independent measurement of those Air 3s figures, named market-adoption statistic, or Air 3s-specific clinical eye-health result was established in the available evidence. The 201-inch number is best read as a viewing-scale description, not as evidence of a physically huge display or a guaranteed visual experience.

The Bottom Line

The RayNeo Air 3s can provide the feel of a 201-inch private screen, but the headline number is virtual and the glasses are only as useful as the device supplying their video. Confirm USB-C DisplayPort support—or a correctly matched HDMI adapter—before treating them as a plug-and-play display.
