The TCL X11L is a 2026 flagship 4K Mini LED TV series with unusually ambitious brightness and color claims, 144Hz refresh, and three very large screen sizes. TCL says its SQD-Mini LED system reaches up to 10,000 peak nits and 100% BT.2020 color; independent reviews cited here tested the 85-inch model, not each size individually. The best fit depends less on the headline specifications than on your room, installation limits, budget, and whether you will use its high-refresh gaming features.
What is the TCL X11L?
Announced by TCL North America on January 5, 2026, the X11L is the company’s flagship 4K SQD-Mini LED series. TCL describes the system as combining Super Quantum Dots, CSOT’s UltraColor Filter, and an Advanced Color Purity Algorithm, alongside a WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel and enhanced Halo Control System. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent proof that it outperforms another display technology.
RTINGS characterizes the set as a conventional Mini LED backlight paired with TCL’s Super Quantum Dot color system, rather than an RGB Mini LED approach. That distinction describes how the display is built; the evidence cited here does not establish that SQD is categorically better than competing approaches.

TCL’s US product page advertises up to 20,736 local dimming zones, while its January launch announcement says up to 20,000 zones and its executive quote rounds the figure to 20,000. TCL also claims up to 10,000 peak nits and 100% BT.2020 color. These are manufacturer specifications and marketing claims, not independently verified measurements of sustained brightness or color coverage in ordinary viewing.
#1 Best Overall

- TCL Deep Color System: The TCL Deep Color System is an advanced color suite that blends Super Quantum Crystals (Super QLED) for 100% of BT.2020 Color*, TCL UltraColor Filter, and TCL Advanced Color Purity Algorithm for an incredibly vivid, accurate picture.
- WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel: The WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel provides a stunning picture from any seat with the high contrast, anti-reflective edge-to-edge ZeroBorder* panel that’s designed to deliver vibrant colors and crisp detail from every angle.
- Up to LD20000 Precise Dimming Series: Up to LD20000 Precise Dimming Series provides pure black levels with up to 20,000+ precisely controlled discrete local dimming zones.
- Up to 10,000 Peak Nits: Up to 10,000 Peak Nits provides a great picture in virtually any room lighting environment. Together with the TCL Halo control system, the result is high contrast images with dazzling specular highlights for amazing HDR impact.
The model-family specification sheet separately lists up to 20,000 local dimming zones and up to 10,000 peak HDR brightness. A peak figure and a maximum zone count do not tell you how bright the TV remains across a whole scene or how it handles every challenging image. Treat them as headline capability claims, not guarantees of real-scene output.
TCL’s announcement also lists Dolby Vision 2.0 Max and Xbox Game Pass app support as over-the-air features. Availability can depend on software rollout and region; the announcement does not establish that either feature is currently available on every X11L in every market.
What independent reviewers found
The independent review evidence is centered on the 85-inch model. RTINGS says it bought and tested an 85-inch X11L and that most results should also apply to the 75- and 98-inch versions. It notes that zone counts differ by size and that the 75-inch version is advertised as slightly dimmer, so the tested model is a useful guide rather than a complete size-by-size performance comparison.

Tom’s Guide also reviewed an 85-inch sample. Its reviewer reported strong brightness, color that remained vivid in bright scenes, and blooming that was barely noticeable in their viewing. The review describes the Bang & Olufsen-tuned audio system as better than typical TV audio, with strong volume and decent clarity. These are that reviewer’s observations, not laboratory measurements stated in the cited material.
For a buyer switching from another TV brand, the practical takeaway is that the reviewed 85-inch set has encouraging independent impressions, but those impressions do not establish that every size behaves identically or that the TV will suit every room and viewing preference.

That is a volatile page snapshot, not the announced MSRP, and it says nothing about the current price of the 85- or 98-inch models. Local prices and availability can vary, particularly outside the US.
Choose the 75-inch model if space or budget leads
The 75-inch version has the smallest footprint and lowest announced MSRP. It is the sensible starting point when a larger set would overwhelm the room or complicate installation. Keep in mind that it is advertised as slightly dimmer than the tested 85-inch version, according to RTINGS’ review overview.

Choose the 85-inch model if you want the best-supported review reference
The 85-inch model sits between the other sizes in price and physical scale, and it is the size tested by both RTINGS and Tom’s Guide. That makes it the most evidence-backed option in the series for judging picture and audio impressions; it does not mean the reviewers tested the other sizes.
Choose the 98-inch model only when the room and installation can handle it
At 85.71 inches wide and 154.98 pounds with its stand, the 98-inch set calls for careful planning. Measure the route into the room as well as the final viewing area, and verify that the stand, furniture, mount, and wall can support the chosen configuration. Its higher price buys the largest screen, not a separately established independent review result in the cited material.

Picture formats, refresh rate, and connections
The specification sheet lists a 3840 × 2160 resolution and 144Hz native refresh rate. It also lists Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG support. A 144Hz panel can matter to PC and console players who want high-refresh output, but compatibility depends on the connected device, settings, and content.
Best Value
- QD-MINI LED: TCL's QD-Mini LED combines the merits of QLED and OLED technologies, transforming the traditional backlight into lighting that is close to pixel-level precision.
- TCL HALO CONTROL SYSTEM: An advanced Technology Suite that includes the New Super High Energy LED Microchip, Super Condensed Micro Lens, Micro-OD Reduced Optical Distance, High Contrast HVA Panel, Enhanced QLED, Zero Delay Transient Response, Bi-direction 23-bit Backlight Controller, and Dynamic Light Algorithm for Stunning “Halo-Free” Images.
- UP TO LD2500 PRECISE DIMMING SERIES: Up to LD2500 Precise Dimming Series provides pure black levels with up to 2500 precisely controlled local dimming zones.
- HIGH HDR BRIGHTNESS: High HDR brightness provides a great picture in virtually any room lighting environment.
- CRYSTGLOW HVA PANEL: The CrystGlow HVA Panel blocks reflections ensuring that image details always remain crisp and visible.
The sheet lists four HDMI 2.1 ports, with HDMI 4 identified for eARC. Tom’s Guide also reports four HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting 4K at 144Hz and eARC on one input. That layout can accommodate several high-bandwidth sources—such as consoles or a gaming PC—alongside an audio system. Confirm the port labels and capabilities for your regional model before purchase.
Smart TV and built-in audio
TCL says the X11L offers Gemini for Google TV. RTINGS identifies the tested set’s platform as Google TV version 14 and describes a built-in soundbar made by TCL and tuned by Bang & Olufsen. The reviewer reports from Tom’s Guide suggest the integrated system may be more capable than the thin, weak speakers common in televisions, though it is still an included TV audio system rather than a separately tested home-theater package.
TCL also advertises support for an optional wireless subwoofer and Dolby FlexConnect 4.1.4 capability to expand home-theater audio. The cited information does not establish that an accessory is required or confirm regional availability of a particular add-on.

How to decide whether the TCL X11L is worth it
- Measure the room and delivery path: compare the full with-stand dimensions with your furniture and viewing area, and account for doors, stairs, and turns along the delivery route.
- Set a real budget: use the current price for the exact size and region rather than treating launch MSRP or a past product-page snapshot as today’s offer.
- Match features to use: 144Hz and multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs are most relevant if you own high-refresh gaming devices; format support matters if your sources deliver Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, or HLG.
- Consider what you value in a display: the X11L’s appeal is its claimed brightness and color volume in a Mini LED design. The cited evidence does not prove it is the right choice over OLED or every other Mini LED implementation for your preferences.
- Keep the size-specific evidence in perspective: the independent impressions summarized here come from 85-inch samples, while RTINGS says most results apply across the line and notes some size differences.
On the available evidence, the X11L is a compelling candidate for buyers who specifically want a very large, bright 4K TV with high-refresh gaming connectivity. Its headline brightness, zone, and color numbers remain TCL claims, and the 85-inch reviews should not be mistaken for testing of all three sizes. A good purchase depends on the exact size’s current local price and whether your room and installation can accommodate it.
