The TCL RM9L is a premium RGB Mini LED Google TV series sold in 85-, 98-, and 115-inch sizes. The important qualification: the independent review available for this family tested only the 85-inch 85RM9L. Its favorable findings on picture quality and color—and its warning about color cross-talk—should not be treated as test results for the larger models.
What the RM9L series offers
TCL describes the RM9L as a 4K UHD HDR RGB Mini LED television series with Google TV. Its North America product page lists 85-, 98-, and 115-inch versions. The core appeal is a backlight made with separate red, green, and blue LEDs, rather than relying on a conventional white or blue backlight with color filters.
In its April 20, 2026 launch announcement, TCL described additional components including a CSOT UltraColor Filter, Super RGB Color Control, a 30-bit × 3 backlight controller, an Enhanced Halo Control System, a WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel, and a TSR AI Pro Processor. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independently verified performance results. TCL also said Dolby Vision 2 Max would arrive in a future over-the-air update. The available product information does not establish whether that update has shipped.
The series specification sheet lists 4K resolution, a native 144Hz panel, Game Accelerator 288, Wi-Fi 6, ATSC 3.0/NextGen TV, and Google TV. HDR formats listed are Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. TCL notes that specifications can change without notice, so confirm the exact regional SKU and size before buying.

What the independent review found—and what it did not
RTINGS dates its review September 4, 2026, with page updates through October 2, 2026. It says it bought and tested the 85-inch 85RM9L. The reviewer reports excellent overall performance and fantastic colors, while identifying color cross-talk as a limitation of the RGB backlight. In some scenes, the reviewer says, colors can interfere with nearby areas—for example, whites beside saturated colors.
RTINGS explicitly limits the review’s validity to the 85-inch model because advertised brightness and dimming-zone counts differ across sizes. The 98-inch and 115-inch versions were not tested in that review. Their specifications are not substitutes for hands-on results, and the 85-inch review cannot establish how the larger sets handle color, motion, blooming, or other real-world picture behavior.

The following brightness and zone figures are advertised values reproduced by RTINGS, not measurements of peak brightness in its lab.

| 115RM9L | 5,616 | 16,848 | Up to 9,000 nits | Not tested in the cited RTINGS review |
Those larger zone counts and brightness claims may be relevant when comparing specifications, but they do not show that the 98- or 115-inch model will reproduce the 85-inch reviewer’s experience. The jump in size also changes the room and installation requirements substantially.

Gaming, inputs, and sound
TCL’s series specification sheet lists a native 144Hz panel and Game Accelerator 288, along with four HDMI 2.1 inputs. HDMI 4 supports eARC, and listed audio passthrough formats include Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. These are manufacturer specifications; verify the port layout and features for the exact size and regional model.
The sheet describes Audio by Bang & Olufsen, plus optional wireless subwoofer and Dolby Atmos FlexConnect speakers. RTINGS notes that the RM9L lacks the forward-facing speaker bar found on the X11L and that bass felt significantly more limited in its demonstration. If strong bass or direct, room-filling sound matters, plan to assess the built-in audio in your room and budget for external audio if needed.

Room fit, delivery, and mounting
Screen size is only part of the fit calculation. Measure the wall, viewing distance, furniture, doorways, stairs, and the full delivery route. The 115-inch model is especially demanding: TCL’s specification sheet lists it at 101.0 × 57.9 × 2.2 inches without the stand and 216.7 lb without the stand. Its package weight is listed as 505.5 lb.
| Model | Weight without stand | VESA pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 85RM9L | 111.1 lb | 600 × 400 |
| 98RM9L | 140.4 lb | 600 × 400 |
| 115RM9L | 216.7 lb | 1000 × 600 |
The sheet also lists the 115-inch set at 220 lb with the stand. A matching VESA pattern alone does not establish that a particular mount, wall, or installer can safely support a television. Check the mount’s rated load, wall structure, installation method, and delivery and installation coverage for your address before ordering.
Price and value
TCL’s April 2026 launch announcement gave US MSRPs of $7,999.99 for the 85-inch model, $9,999.99 for the 98-inch model, and $29,999.99 for the 115-inch model. These are launch MSRPs, not current street prices. When accessed, TCL’s product page displayed $4,999.99 for the 85-inch set alongside a crossed-out $7,999.99 figure; that page price and sale label can change. Current prices for the 98-inch and 115-inch models are not established here. Check live size-specific stock, pricing, shipping, and installation charges before deciding.
Whether the RM9L is worth buying depends on the size you need, your room, your tolerance for the reviewer-reported cross-talk caveat, and the price available for your chosen variant. RTINGS suggests that some buyers may be better served by a standard Mini LED TV or OLED depending on viewing conditions. Treat that as a decision cue, not a universal verdict: compare the RM9L’s color presentation and screen size against your budget and how you watch, and seek model-specific evidence for the 98- or 115-inch set rather than assuming the 85-inch review applies.
