The TCL QM8L is a 2026 premium 4K SQD-Mini LED TV series with a native 144Hz panel, Google TV, and broad HDR format support. It looks most compelling for viewers who want a large, bright-screen TV with serious gaming features, but its headline figures of 4,000-plus dimming zones and 6,000 peak nits are TCL maximum claims—not guaranteed measurements for every model. Independent reviews cover 65- and 75-inch samples, so conclusions about the full range should be treated accordingly.
What is the TCL QM8L?
The QM8L is TCL’s 2026 premium SQD-Mini LED 4K television range. Its US model identifiers are 65QM8L, 75QM8L, 85QM8L, and 98QM8L. This is the QM8L series, not the previous-year QM8K or the lower-tier QM7L. TCL announced the models as available in North America in 2026. TCL North America’s announcement provides the launch context.
On paper, the range combines a high-refresh-rate panel and local dimming with Google TV and support for major HDR formats. TCL’s specifications and independent reviews do not establish that every size or regional version has identical hardware or software, so check the listing for the exact model and market before ordering.

TCL’s series specification sheet lists these core features for the QM8L range. They are manufacturer specifications, rather than independent measurements of every size. TCL’s US product information is the reference for the company’s listed features.

TCL advertises “up to 4000+” discrete dimming zones and “up to 6000” peak nits. Those are the manufacturer’s maximum claims; they should not be read as guaranteed results for each screen size or as independent lab findings. TechRadar’s review of a 75-inch unit also found that its measurements did not reach TCL’s claimed 100% BT.2020 or DCI-P3 color coverage. The reviewer noted that BT.2020 coverage can be measured in different ways, so the company’s color-coverage claim and that review’s measured result are not interchangeable. TechRadar’s QM8L review discusses its measurements and viewing observations.
What do independent reviews say about picture and gaming?
Review findings are tied to the sample and reviewer, not first-hand testing of every size in the series.

Picture quality and brightness
Tom’s Guide reviewed a 75-inch QM8L and described its bright-room performance, deep blacks with fine detail, and dynamic range favorably. TechRadar also reviewed a 75-inch sample and reported subjective observations about blooming and color. These are the reviewers’ assessments; the evidence here does not establish a measured, size-by-size comparison across the range. Tom’s Guide’s review and TechRadar’s review contain their respective findings.
RTINGS says it bought and tested a 65-inch QM8L and that its results also apply to the 75-, 85-, and 98-inch models. That is RTINGS’ stated scope; it does not mean the publication separately tested all four sizes. Its review evaluates picture characteristics, processing, gaming response, reflections, viewing angle, inputs, sound, and smart features. Read RTINGS’ QM8L review for its methodology and conclusions.

Gaming inputs and refresh rate
TCL lists a native 144Hz panel and Game Accelerator 288. Independent reviews report four HDMI 2.1 inputs. Tom’s Guide lists 4K/144Hz support, eARC on HDMI port 1, and a VRR range of 48–288Hz for its 75-inch review sample. TechRadar also lists four HDMI 2.1 ports in its reviewed specifications. These reviewer-specific details are useful when planning a setup, but regional versions and implementations should be checked against the exact model before purchase.
How much do the four QM8L sizes cost?
TCL North America announced these US launch MSRPs in 2026. The figures are launch prices, not a claim about current retail pricing. TCL’s North American announcement is the source for the launch MSRPs.

Which QM8L size should you choose?
Choose by room, viewing distance, budget, and installation feasibility—not by assuming one size performs better. The available independent review evidence does not establish a performance ranking among the four diagonals.
Best Value
- QD-MINI LED | BRIGHT WHERE IT SHOULD BE, DARK WHERE IT SHOULDN'T: Get the deep blacks and precise contrast shoppers expect from a premium display, plus the high brightness Mini LED is known for. Up to 500 local dimming zones with TCL Halo Control Technology precisely control the backlight to reduce unwanted blooming around bright objects. The result is bright highlights, deeper blacks and greater contrast, without the burn-in concern associated with premium displays
- NATIVE 144Hz | BUILT FOR GAMING + SPORTS: Looking for a gaming TV or a better TV for sports? Native 144Hz, Motion Rate 480, VRR, ALLM and Game Accelerator deliver smooth, responsive gameplay and clearer fast-moving action. Follow the ball, catch every play or jump into high-speed gaming with greater motion clarity and responsiveness
- ONKYO 2.1 + BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER | HOME THEATER SOUND: Turn your living room into a home theater with Onkyo 2.1 audio and a 20W subwoofer for deeper bass, clearer dialogue and fuller sound. Dolby Atmos and dedicated DTS add immersive audio for movies, gaming, sports and streaming. With powerful sound built right into the TV, adding a soundbar is optional
- BEZEL-LESS DESIGN | MORE SCREEN, LESS FRAME: Make your entertainment feel bigger. The thin, bezel-less design minimizes the frame around the picture for a more immersive big-screen experience. Whether you're watching movies, streaming shows, sports or gaming, more of what you see is the picture, not the frame
- FIRE TV + ALEXA+ | SMART TV MADE EASY: Stream movies, shows, live TV and more from one easy home screen. Alexa+ adds conversational AI to help you discover what to watch, search entertainment and control your TV using your voice. Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG bring cinematic HDR picture quality to your favorite entertainment
- 65 inches: the smallest option and the size RTINGS says it tested. Its listed VESA pattern is 300 × 300 mm.
- 75 inches: reviewed by both TechRadar and Tom’s Guide. Its listed VESA pattern is 400 × 400 mm.
- 85 inches: a larger-screen option with a listed VESA pattern of 600 × 500 mm.
- 98 inches: the largest option, with a listed VESA pattern of 600 × 500 mm. Its weight and carton dimensions make delivery and installation especially important to plan.
Before settling on a size, measure the intended wall or furniture space and consider how far viewers will sit from the screen. Compare the price difference with the extra screen area, and make sure the television can be delivered through doorways and into the room.
What should you know before mounting or installing one?
TCL’s specification sheet lists the following TV weights without the stand and VESA mounting patterns. Confirm the exact model’s requirements and check that your mount, wall construction, and installation plan can safely support it. TCL’s specification information is the source for these figures.
| Model | Weight without stand | VESA pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 65QM8L | 46.5 lb | 300 × 300 mm |
| 75QM8L | 62.6 lb | 400 × 400 mm |
| 85QM8L | 85.8 lb | 600 × 500 mm |
| 98QM8L | 121.3 lb | 600 × 500 mm |
For a wall installation, verify the mount’s VESA compatibility and load rating, and ensure the wall and fixings are suitable. Arrange appropriate help for lifting and positioning, particularly for the 98-inch set. Check delivery access and installation constraints before scheduling the TV’s arrival.

Is the TCL QM8L worth buying?
The QM8L is a strong on-paper candidate if you want a premium large-screen 4K TV with a 144Hz panel, Google TV, several HDR formats, and the gaming connectivity reported by independent reviewers. Favorable 75-inch review impressions support its appeal, but they do not turn TCL’s maximum brightness and dimming-zone figures into guaranteed results or prove identical performance across all four sizes.
Compare the price available for your chosen size with its launch MSRP, verify the exact ports and features for your region, and choose a size your room and installation can accommodate. The strongest independent coverage found here is of 65- and 75-inch examples; buyers of the 85- or 98-inch models should not treat those reviews as separate tests of their exact screen.
