The TCL QM7L is a 4K SQD-Mini LED TV with Google TV, and TCL lists gaming-focused features including a 144 Hz panel on its 55-inch model. Those specifications make it worth considering, but the available product information does not establish that it is the best mid-range TV or verify a firsthand recommendation based on using its predecessor. Here’s what TCL lists—and what shoppers should confirm for their size, region, and setup.
What the TCL QM7L is
TCL describes the QM7L as a 4K UHD SQD-Mini LED television running Google TV. Its support page identifies the QM7L as a series, and TCL Canada’s product listing names the 55-inch model as the 55QM7L. The listed screen sizes are 55, 65, 75, 85, and 98 inches. TCL Canada’s 55QM7L listing and TCL’s QM7L support page are useful starting points, but check the documentation for the exact size and regional model you plan to buy.
That distinction matters: the detailed port and panel figures below come from the 55QM7L listing. They should not automatically be assumed to apply identically to every screen size.

What TCL lists for the 55-inch model
Panel, resolution, and brightness claims
TCL lists a 54.6-inch viewable display with 3840 × 2160 resolution, an HVA 2.0 Pro panel, QLED display technology, and SQD-Mini LED local dimming. The listing says the 55-inch set has up to 2,100+ dimming zones and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. These are TCL’s specifications, not independently measured results. TCL’s product listing does not by itself show how the television performs in a standardized brightness, blooming, reflection, or viewing-angle test.

Color and HDR formats
TCL states 100% BT.2020 color as a typical achievement and notes that actual results may vary with test environment, standards, equipment, and production variation. The 55QM7L specification lists Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Format support tells you which HDR formats the set is specified to accept; it does not establish how accurately or brightly it displays each format in practice. TCL’s 55QM7L specifications are the source for these figures and formats.
Gaming and HDMI inputs
For the 55-inch set, TCL lists a 144 Hz panel refresh rate, VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro, and Game Accelerator 288. The same listing specifies four HDMI 2.1 ports, but their listed modes differ: HDMI 1 and 2 support 4K at 144 Hz, while HDMI 3 and 4 support 4K at 60 Hz; HDMI 4 is identified as eARC. Check the exact model’s manual and input labels before connecting a console or PC, especially if you need both a high-refresh-rate input and eARC for a soundbar. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not independent confirmation of real-world gaming performance or compatibility with every source device. TCL’s 55QM7L page has the port breakdown.
Smart TV, wireless, tuner, and audio
TCL lists Google TV, Chromecast, Google Assistant compatibility, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.4 for the 55QM7L. Its listed tuner is ATSC 1.0 / NTSC / Clear QAM. The page also lists Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio format support. These specifications do not establish the quality of the built-in speakers or whether a particular streaming app, service, or external device will meet your needs; verify app and service availability for your region. TCL’s listing is the source for the platform and format details.

Will it work with your gaming and home-theater setup?
For a console or gaming PC
The 55QM7L’s listed 144 Hz panel, VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro, and two HDMI inputs specified for 4K at 144 Hz may appeal to buyers with compatible gaming hardware. Before choosing a port, confirm the source device’s output capabilities and the TV’s manual for the exact model. If a soundbar will use eARC, note that TCL identifies HDMI 4 as eARC and lists that port for 4K at 60 Hz rather than 144 Hz. Your device connections may therefore affect which input you use for high-refresh-rate video. The port modes are from TCL’s 55-inch specifications.

For HDR movies and TV
The listed Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG support covers several commonly used HDR formats, while SQD-Mini LED local dimming is the display technology TCL specifies. The product page’s peak-brightness and dimming-zone figures are vendor claims; without independent measurements, they do not settle how the set handles highlights, dark scenes, reflections, or blooming in your room. For those qualities, seek testing of the exact size and regional model rather than treating the specification sheet as a picture-quality verdict.

For the 55QM7L, TCL lists VESA mounting support with a 300 × 300 mm hole pattern, M6 screws, and a 16 mm screw length. Do not assume those dimensions apply to the other sizes. Before ordering a wall mount, compare the exact TV’s manual with the mount’s supported VESA pattern and weight range; also verify the wall and installation method can safely support the set. TCL’s 55QM7L product listing gives the cited mounting details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the QM7L the best mid-range TV right now?
The available official material establishes what TCL lists for the product, but it does not provide independent testing or a comparison with other current televisions. It therefore cannot substantiate a claim that the QM7L is the best mid-range TV. A defensible recommendation would need comparable testing of picture quality, gaming behavior, viewing angles, reflections, and value, alongside current prices and availability in the buyer’s region.

Treat the manufacturer’s figures as specifications rather than proof of a top-ranked picture or value, and confirm the exact model’s details and local price before buying.
