The TCL QM7L is a strong mid-range choice if you want a bright 4K Mini-LED TV with vibrant color, deep blacks, and modern gaming features. Its main caveat is motion: RTINGS found very slow pixel response in dedicated gaming mode, which can make fast movement look blurrier than on the previous QM7K. Also note that only two of its four HDMI ports support 4K at 144Hz.
The QM7L family includes the 55QM7L, 65QM7L, 75QM7L, 85QM7L, and 98QM7L. Independent test figures cited below come from specific review samples, while TCL’s brightness, zone, and refresh-rate figures are manufacturer specifications.
What is the TCL QM7L?
The QM7L is TCL’s 2026 mid-range television, using Super Quantum Dot (SQD) color and Mini-LED full-array local dimming. RTINGS describes it as the successor to the QM7K, positioned below the QM8L and above the QM6L. It tested the 65-inch model and says its findings also apply to the other listed sizes, while noting that zone counts and brightness can vary somewhat by size. The European C7L is described as the same hardware with different tuning, so the results may not transfer exactly to that model. RTINGS’ QM7L review was updated October 2, 2026, to Test Bench 2.3.

Picture quality and brightness
TCL’s specification sheet lists up to 2,100+ local dimming zones and up to 3,000 peak HDR nits. These are maximum manufacturer claims, not brightness results guaranteed for every scene or screen size. TCL’s QM7L specifications also list a 4K UHD resolution of 3840 × 2160, a 144Hz native refresh rate, and Super Quantum Dots.

- SQD-Mini LED: As the ultimate Mini LED TV, it integrates the expansive TCL Deep Color System with the breakthrough TCL Halo Control System to ensure the most brilliant, pure, and immersive viewing experience possible.
- TCL Ultra Color Filter: TCL’s Ultra Color Filter with fine 5 nanometer particles (vs. standard 60 nanometer particles) bring every scene to life with pinpoint, pixel-perfect color accuracy.
- HVA 2.0 Pro Panel: The HVA 2.0 Pro Panel provides a stunning picture in nearly any environment with the high contrast, anti-reflective panel.
- Up to LD2100 Precise Dimming Series: Up to LD2100 Precise Dimming Series provides pure black levels with up to 2,100+ precisely controlled discrete local dimming zones.
- AIPQ Pro Processor: Harnessing the power of AI to finely control Picture Clarity, Contrast, Color, Motion, Upscaling, and Backlighting, all dynamically, based on the incoming video signal.
Tom’s Guide measured a 75-inch sample in HDR Filmmaker Mode at 2,270 nits with a 10% window and 723 nits fullscreen. Its lab also measured 90.28% Rec. 2020 color coverage. Those are results from that sample and the publication’s method, not official TCL ratings or a guarantee for other sizes. The reviewer described the image as bright and colorful, with strong contrast in the scenes tested. Read Tom’s Guide’s QM7L review for its test context.
RTINGS likewise reports excellent black levels and vibrant color, and considers the set suitable for both bright and dark rooms. These findings point to a versatile picture, though they do not establish how well the TV handles reflections in every room.
Gaming: capable features, with a motion caveat
The QM7L combines a native 144Hz panel with Auto Game Mode and a Game Bar, according to TCL. Tom’s Guide reports support for FreeSync Premium Pro, variable refresh rate (VRR), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM); it measured 9.4 milliseconds of input latency on its 75-inch test sample. Input latency and pixel response are different: a low input-latency result does not mean pixels transition quickly enough to eliminate blur.

That distinction matters here. RTINGS flags very slow pixel response in dedicated gaming mode, producing more motion blur than it saw on the previous QM7K. This is the most important trade-off for players sensitive to smear or blur in fast-moving scenes. The review finding is specific to its test and does not promise the same perception for every viewer.
Check the HDMI ports before connecting devices
All four inputs are HDMI, but they do not offer the same bandwidth capabilities. TCL specifies HDMI 1 and 2 for 4K at 144Hz, while HDMI 3 and 4 support 4K at 60Hz. HDMI 4 also provides eARC. If you have more than two high-refresh sources, such as a gaming PC and multiple consoles, plan which devices need the two faster inputs before installation. A receiver or soundbar using eARC occupies HDMI 4, which is specified for 4K at 60Hz.
HDR, smart TV, and audio features
The specification sheet lists Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG support. Picture modes and certifications include Filmmaker Mode and IMAX Enhanced. The smart platform is Google TV, with hands-free voice control and a backlit voice remote. Networking includes Wi-Fi 5 and one Ethernet port.

TCL lists audio by Bang & Olufsen, plus one optical digital audio output. If you plan to connect a soundbar, HDMI 4 is the eARC port; optical is another listed output. The spec sheet names optional wireless subwoofer and Dolby Atmos FlexConnect speakers but does not identify compatible models, so check the documentation for the exact regional TV before buying add-on audio equipment.

The model number is the clearest way to distinguish sizes. TCL’s sheet gives both the marketed screen class and the viewable diagonal; product listings can label the largest model differently, so verify the actual model number rather than treating “98-inch” and “100-inch” as interchangeable.
| Model | Screen class (viewable diagonal) | With-stand dimensions (W × H × D) | Weight with stand | TCL Canada page price (accessed 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55QM7L | 55 inches (54.6 inches) | 48.3 × 29.9 × 10.6 inches | 32.0 lb | C$999.99; page displayed “Sold out” when accessed |
| 65QM7L | 65 inches (64.5 inches) | 56.8 × 34.2 × 14.5 inches | 43.9 lb | C$1,299.99 |
| 75QM7L | 75 inches (74.5 inches) | 65.6 × 39.2 × 14.5 inches | 58.6 lb | C$1,499.99 |
| 85QM7L | 85 inches (84.6 inches) | 74.4 × 44.3 × 14.9 inches | 77.6 lb | C$1,999.99 |
| 98QM7L | 98 inches (97.5 inches) | 85.8 × 50.6 × 16.5 inches | 121.9 lb | C$2,999.99 |
Dimensions and weights are from TCL’s specification sheet; prices and the stock note are observations from TCL Canada’s product page, accessed in 2026, and can change. U.S. launch coverage from TechRadar listed prices of $999.99, $1,299.99, $1,499.99, $1,999.99, and $2,999.99 for 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and its listed 100-inch size, respectively. Those were launch prices, not current quotes; the 100-inch label conflicts with the 98QM7L model named by TCL’s sheet. TechRadar’s 2026 launch coverage gives its size labels and launch pricing.

For a wall installation, use the dimensions and weight only as planning figures. TCL’s cited sheet does not state a VESA mounting pattern, so verify the exact model’s mounting requirements and the mount’s weight rating before installation.

Besides four HDMI ports, TCL lists one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, an optical digital audio output, and an Ethernet input. Its specification sheet lists ATSC 1.0, NTSC, and Clear QAM tuner capabilities. TechRadar has described ATSC 3.0, which conflicts with that sheet; verify tuner support against current documentation for the exact regional model rather than assuming ATSC 3.0 is included.

Should you buy the TCL QM7L?
The QM7L is worth considering if your priorities are strong brightness, color, dark-scene contrast, and a 144Hz panel with VRR and ALLM support. It is less compelling if clear motion in fast games is your top priority, given RTINGS’ finding about slow response in gaming mode. Buyers with several 4K/144Hz sources should also account for the two-port limit.
Choose among sizes based on your room, viewing distance, budget, and installation constraints, then compare current local listings for the exact model number. Tom’s Guide called the QM7L “the most affordable entry point to TCL’s SQD Mini-LED tier,” but that assessment reflects its review context; prices and stock vary by market and date.
