The TCL 65C8L is a feature-rich 65-inch 4K Mini LED TV on paper, with Google TV, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and gaming support that includes 4K/144 Hz VRR in TCL’s Australian specification sheet. TCL also claims 2,040 local-dimming zones and peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits for this size. Those are manufacturer specifications—not independent measurements. Available coverage does not establish comprehensive lab testing of the exact 65C8L variant, so a buying decision should hinge on your local price and independent testing of the specific regional model.
What is the TCL 65C8L?
The 65C8L is the 65-inch model in TCL’s 2026 C8L SQD-Mini LED television line. TCL’s Germany, Australia, and Taiwan materials describe a 4K LCD television with Google TV and HDR support, but regional specifications and naming can differ. Confirm the exact model suffix and features on the unit sold in your market.
TCL’s Australian sheet lists a 3840 × 2160 resolution, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, and 4K/144 Hz VRR. It also cautions that specifications may change and some features may require software updates. These are listed features, not independent verification of real-world performance.
How bright is the 65C8L, and what do the picture claims mean?
TCL Germany lists 2,040 local-dimming zones and up to 5,000 nits of HDR peak brightness for the 65-inch model. Treat both figures as TCL claims: the brightness figure does not establish sustained full-screen output, and neither number alone predicts how convincing HDR will look in real scenes.

TCL Taiwan also advertises 100% BT.2020 typical area coverage. Its product-page footnote attributes this figure to TCL laboratory tests and says reasonable variation may be up to 5%, with results affected by test conditions, equipment, production batches, and other objective factors. This is not an independent color-gamut measurement.
For a meaningful picture assessment, look for testing of real HDR scenes, highlights and dark areas together, black levels, blooming around bright objects, color accuracy, viewing angles, and panel uniformity. No exact-model independent lab results for these areas were established in the available coverage.

What do independent reviews say?
The available independent evidence is limited and should not be mistaken for a complete review of the 65C8L. What Hi-Fi?’s January 2026 C8L/QM8L report was an early CES hands-on; it said information about the mainstream model was limited and deferred a full judgment until a production sample and comprehensive testing. Does the TCL 65C8L support 4K 144 Hz gaming?
TCL Australia lists 4K/144 Hz VRR and four HDMI 2.1 inputs. TCL Taiwan separately describes a 144 Hz native refresh rate and VRR up to 288 Hz. These regional listings use different details: do not mistake a stated VRR ceiling for the panel’s native refresh rate, or assume every regional unit offers every listed mode. Check the exact local specification, firmware, input configuration, and source-device compatibility before buying.

To use a high-refresh mode, the connected console or PC, its output settings, and the HDMI connection must all support the desired resolution and refresh rate. A port label or cable claim by itself does not establish that a particular source will output 4K at 144 Hz.

The C8L is a backlit Mini LED LCD television; OLED pixels emit their own light. That technology distinction can inform what to investigate, but it does not establish which set will look better in your room. Compare independent measurements and reviews for dark-scene contrast, blooming, peak and sustained brightness, color accuracy, motion, and viewing angles.
The available QM8L blooming observation is series-level context, not a controlled comparison with OLED or a verified result for every 65C8L variant. No same-lab comparison of the exact 65C8L against a named OLED competitor was established here. Do not choose based only on the advertised peak-brightness or dimming-zone figures.
What should you check before buying?
- Exact regional model: Match the full model number and suffix on the retailer’s listing and the television’s label. Confirm that its refresh-rate, HDR, and HDMI specifications match your needs.
- Local price and stock: Compare the price in your country with competing 65-inch televisions. TCL Taiwan’s store displayed NT$59,990 and “sold out, restocking” when accessed in 2026; that is a Taiwan-specific snapshot, not a current or universal price.
- Warranty and returns: Check the local warranty, return window, delivery terms, and installation costs with the seller. A universal warranty or price was not established.
- Mounting: TCL Taiwan lists a 300 × 300 mm VESA pattern. TCL Australia’s regional specification sheet says the wall bracket is not included. Verify the dimensions and permitted load for your actual unit, bracket, and wall before installation.
- Room and use: Consider your viewing distance, seating angles, daytime light, dark-room viewing, and whether gaming features matter. Manufacturer claims cannot substitute for independent testing in the conditions that matter to you.
TCL’s regional materials are useful for confirming listed features, but they do not establish exact-model input lag, power use, long-term reliability, or performance uniformity across retail units. Use a review that identifies the same market variant if those factors are important to your decision. TCL’s Australian C8L specification sheet states that specifications are subject to change and that the wall bracket is not included.
