Specifications also vary by market, so check the exact regional model before relying on a particular refresh-rate or feature claim.
What is the TCL 65C835?
TCL identifies the model as the TCL C835 Mini LED 4K TV. It is a 65-inch LCD television combining Mini LED backlighting and QLED color technology, with a 4K resolution and Google TV. TCL’s official support page provides model documents, including manuals and a product information sheet; consult the documents for the precise suffix and country of sale.
Regional specifications should not be treated as universal. The Australian specification sheet describes Google TV, HDR10+ decoding, Dolby Vision IQ, HDMI 2.1 inputs, eARC, Wi-Fi 6, FreeSync Premium, VRR up to 144 Hz and an Onkyo 2.1 audio system. By contrast, the Turkish-market product sheet gives a 120 Hz image-refresh figure. These claims refer to different regional documentation and may describe distinct aspects of refresh capability; they do not establish that every 65C835 variant supports every listed mode.

How good is its picture?
Frandroid’s review, updated 28 December 2022, and Les Numériques both praise the picture, contrast and HDR performance. Mini LED backlighting helps the set deliver strong contrast, while reviewers describe its HDR image as bright and impactful. Frandroid also notes that peak brightness does not lead the Mini LED class, so “bright HDR” should not be read as a claim that it outperforms every competing Mini LED television.

Viewing position is an important consideration: Les Numériques reports limited viewing angles. The picture is therefore better suited to seating concentrated in front of the screen than to a room where viewers regularly watch from far off-axis. For a fair comparison with another television, look for evidence about HDR brightness, contrast and blooming under comparable conditions, not just a headline technology label.
Is the TCL 65C835 good for gaming?
Gaming is one of the television’s clearest strengths. The Australian regional sheet lists HDMI 2.1 inputs, FreeSync Premium and VRR up to 144 Hz. Frandroid also lists 144 Hz, VRR, ALLM and low input lag among the tested set’s positives. Check the local model documentation and the specific console or PC connection: a feature listed for the television does not by itself guarantee that every input, source or regional variant supports the same combination of resolution and refresh rate.

Before buying for high-refresh gaming, confirm which HDMI input supports the mode you need and whether the source device can output it. The available evidence supports HDMI 2.1 and high-refresh capability, but does not establish that an existing cable is inadequate or that a particular cable model has been tested with this television.
How good is its built-in sound?
The Australian specification sheet lists an Onkyo 2.1 audio system. That is useful onboard hardware, but independent testing identifies a limit: Les Numériques reports distortion and woofer vibration when the volume is pushed high. Frandroid also flags audio shortfalls. If you regularly watch at loud levels or prioritize sound quality, compare the built-in system with an external sound system rather than assuming the speaker branding settles the question.

The available figures come from different methods and markets, so they are not interchangeable:

Should you buy the TCL 65C835?
It is a potentially strong fit if you want a 65-inch 4K television with punchy HDR, strong contrast and high-refresh gaming features, and your seating is mostly in front of the screen. It is a less obvious choice if broad off-axis viewing, loud built-in audio or class-leading peak brightness is a priority.
Availability and pricing are not established across markets, and old review findings cannot confirm current stock, price or firmware behavior. Before buying, verify the exact model suffix, region, condition, warranty and live local availability. If wall-mounting, the Australian sheet lists a VESA 400 × 400 mm pattern; confirm that your local variant matches it and that the mount suits the wall, load and required clearance.

For comparisons, weigh measured HDR brightness and contrast, viewing angles, the high-refresh modes and ports your devices need, onboard audio, and power figures measured under comparable conditions. A regional label value should not be compared directly with a laboratory test using a different pattern.
