The Australian 65-inch TCL 65C6L packs a strong feature list for a mid-range 4K TV: QD-Mini LED with 180 local-dimming zones, listed 144Hz VRR, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG. But those specifications do not tell us how bright, consistent or responsive the screen is in practice. Treat it as a promising on-paper option, not a proven performer, and weigh its live price against independent test results before buying.

What this review can—and cannot—establish

This is the Australian 65-inch version of TCL’s C6L QD-Mini LED series, not the distinct C6K or a similarly named model sold in another market. TCL Australia lists the series in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. The assessment below is grounded in the Australian model’s published specifications; it is not a hands-on or laboratory review.

CHOICE has a page titled “TCL 65C6L review,” but its substantive test findings are access-gated. No inspectable independent lab results for this exact model were available here, so there is no verified score or measurement for brightness, contrast, colour, motion, input lag, uniformity, sound or usability. Retailer comments are individual owner reports, not controlled testing.

Mini LED and local dimming

The 65C6L’s Mini LED backlight and 180 local-dimming zones are meaningful features on paper. Local dimming can control groups of backlight LEDs behind the image, but the zone count alone cannot establish black levels, shadow detail or whether bright objects create visible halos against dark backgrounds. Those effects depend on the panel and dimming behavior, which require testing.

HDR formats and colour

Support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG covers several mainstream HDR formats. Format support means the TV can accept compatible content; it does not establish peak brightness, tone mapping quality or how well HDR looks in a bright room. TCL claims up to 93% DCI-P3 colour coverage and says the figure comes from its laboratories, with results potentially varying. That is manufacturer data, not an independent measurement.

Sport, films and everyday viewing

The 4K resolution and listed HDR support suit a mixed-use brief, but there are no verified measurements here for upscaling, motion handling, reflections, off-axis viewing or panel uniformity. If you watch sport with fast camera pans, sit far to the side, or use the TV in a bright room, these are important points to check in an independent review or in person.

Gaming: four HDMI 2.1 ports and high-refresh modes

TCL lists 144Hz VRR with a 48–288Hz range. Its product page describes dual modes as native 4K at 144Hz and 1080p at 288Hz—not 4K at 288Hz. TCL also says the 288Hz mode requires a supported mode and compatible device and content. The figures are published specifications; they do not confirm that every input, device or game will use those modes.

TCL’s Australian product page states: “C6L leverages VRR to deliver dual-mode refresh rates: native 4K at 144Hz and 1080p at 288Hz.” This is a manufacturer claim. PC capabilities and console output limits differ, so confirm the modes supported by your specific gaming device and connection. The four listed HDMI 2.1 inputs give multiple potential high-bandwidth connections, but the available specifications do not establish input lag, ALLM or FreeSync behavior, or text clarity at high refresh rates.

Sound and smart TV features

The specification sheet lists two 10W speakers, Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. Those labels do not establish dialogue clarity, bass, loudness or convincing surround effects. HDMI eARC is available for connecting compatible audio equipment, but the specifications alone do not show whether you will want a separate sound system.

Australian price, warranty and installation checks

Retailer prices are snapshots, not a reliable market average. At the time captured, Costco Australia listed the 65C6L at A$1,499.99 including delivery. The Good Guys displayed A$1,595 with a promotion ending 7 October 2026. Check the live price, stock and total delivery cost before relying on either figure.

TCL says a wall bracket is not included. Costco’s listing gives a 400 × 400 mm VESA pattern. Before buying a mount, check the TV manual and mount manufacturer’s guidance for the exact screw size, clearance, wall material and load rating. Also confirm warranty coverage and its start date, return conditions and any installation charges with the Australian seller.

The Good Guys listing showed 4.5 stars from six customer reviews, with 83% recommending the TV, at the time captured. That is a small retailer-hosted sample, which may include incentivised reviews. One owner mentioned setup for apps; another praised picture and sound. These reports are anecdotal and should not be treated as representative or statistically reliable.
