The TCL 65C655 is a 65-inch 4K QLED Google TV with broad HDR-format support, a built-in 2.1-channel Onkyo audio system, and a 120Hz gaming mode that is limited to lower resolutions. It is not a native 4K/120Hz TV. If you are considering one, confirm the exact regional model and price: specifications and features vary by market, size, and suffix.
What the TCL 65C655 offers
The Australian 65C655 specification sheet describes a 65-inch, 3840 × 2160 QLED television running Google TV, with 32GB of storage. It lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, as well as a DLED backlight. TCL’s global C655 page cautions that features and specifications vary by model, screen size, and region, so the Australian figures below should not be treated as universal specifications.
The sheet lists 450 nits as typical brightness and a 6000:1 contrast ratio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. HDR format support is useful, but the format badges alone do not establish how bright or impactful HDR will look in a room.
Picture quality and HDR: capable formats, moderate brightness
Independent testing points to a limitation common to the reviewed 55–85-inch C655/C69B range: no local dimming. Choose.TV reports around 450 nits average HDR brightness across its test patterns and says the lack of local dimming limits HDR effect. That is review-family evidence, not a guarantee about every regional panel.

In a 2025 review of the German-market TCL 65C655X1, connect measured 380 cd/m² area/peak white and 406 cd/m² HDR brightness using its own test method. Those measurements apply to that tested unit, not necessarily the Australian 65C655. Taken together, the available evidence suggests that this set supports modern HDR formats but is not aimed at viewers seeking especially bright, locally dimmed HDR.
Does the TCL 65C655 support 4K at 120Hz?
No—not according to the Australian 65-inch specification. TCL lists 3840 × 2160 resolution and DLG 120Hz, but the footnote on that gaming mode says “Up to 2K for gaming.” The 120Hz mode therefore should not be read as native 4K/120Hz.
Regional independent reviews reinforce the need to distinguish model variants and modes. RTINGS describes the North American 65Q651G as a 60Hz panel with Game Accelerator 120 and recognizes 1080p or 1440p at 120Hz with VRR. Its tested 75-inch results are said to be mostly valid for the 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch versions, but this is not a direct test of the Australian 65C655. Choose.TV likewise reports that 55–85-inch C655/C69B models do not support 4K/120Hz, while listing 1080p/120Hz and 1440p/120Hz modes with VRR.

For a console or PC, check the exact model’s supported resolution and refresh-rate combinations, VRR behavior, and input lag before buying. A “120Hz” label may refer to a reduced-resolution gaming mode rather than a native 120Hz 4K panel.
Gaming performance: useful features, not a high-end gaming panel
The Australian sheet lists ALLM and DLG 120Hz, with the resolution limitation noted above. Choose.TV’s review-family information also lists VRR and 1080p/120Hz and 1440p/120Hz support. These features can be useful if you are willing to play at a lower resolution to gain smoother motion.
RTINGS’ North American Q651G review reports slow pixel transitions that hinder gaming performance. That is a regional comparison rather than a direct measurement of the Australian set, but it is a reason not to judge gaming quality by the advertised high-frame-rate mode alone. For competitive play, look for testing of the exact local model that covers input lag, VRR range, and motion response with your intended source.

Sound, smart TV, and connections
The Australian specification lists Google TV, 32GB storage, and three HDMI inputs. HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 are both listed, but the extracted specification does not identify which individual port uses which version. It also lists HDMI eARC, optical audio output, headphone output, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and one USB 3.0 port. App availability can vary by country.
Audio is a built-in 2.1-channel Onkyo system rated at 2 × 10 W plus 15 W, with an integrated subwoofer. The sheet also lists Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. A compatible soundbar can connect through HDMI eARC or optical, but the built-in system means one is not an automatic requirement.
Size, stand, and wall mounting
For the Australian 65-inch model, TCL lists a width of 1444 mm and weight of 17.1 kg without the stand. With the stand, the dimensions are 1444 × 893 × 295 mm and the weight is 17.4 kg; without the stand, the listed dimensions are 1444 × 831 × 69.5 mm.

The VESA mounting pattern is 400 × 300 mm, using four M6 × 16 screws. The wall bracket is not included. Choose a mount that matches the pattern, supports the television’s weight, and is suitable for the wall material; confirm screw compatibility for the regional unit you have.

Who should consider the TCL 65C655?
The 65C655 may suit someone looking for a large 4K QLED Google TV with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, several connectivity options, and built-in subwoofer-equipped audio. Its gaming features may appeal if lower-resolution 120Hz modes are acceptable. It is a weaker fit if you require native 4K/120Hz, strong locally dimmed HDR, or a gaming recommendation based on verified testing of your exact regional model.
Before choosing it over another television, compare the exact local model on native refresh rate versus resolution-limited modes, local dimming and measured HDR brightness, input lag and VRR support, available apps, port layout and eARC, price, and warranty. Current local pricing and warranty terms have not been established here, so a value verdict depends on the listing and alternatives available where you live.
