The TCL 55C6K is a value-oriented 55-inch 4K QD-Mini LED Google TV with an especially strong gaming feature set. Independent reviews find it well suited to bright rooms and gaming, but less convincing in dark scenes, off-axis viewing and built-in sound. This review covers the UK 55C6K-UK where noted; some detailed specifications come from TCL Australia’s 55C6K sheet, so check your local variant before buying.
What is the TCL 55C6K?
The 55C6K is a 55-inch 4K television using a QLED panel and Mini LED backlighting, with Google TV as its smart platform. TCL UK identifies its version as model 55C6K-UK and lists a native 144 Hz refresh rate, matte HVA panel, AiPQ Pro processor and ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi audio system. The UK page advertises up to 512 local dimming zones across the C6K range; that is a range maximum, not the reported zone count for the 55-inch review sample.
TechRadar reported 180 local dimming zones on the 55-inch set it tested. The difference matters: zone counts can vary by size and market, and the series-level maximum should not be read as the specification for every 55-inch model. TCL also cautions that specifications may change and some features may require a software update.

How good is the picture?
Bright-room viewing
AVForums recommends the C6K for bright-room viewing and reports good SDR performance for its price. TechRadar measured peak HDR brightness of 705 nits in Filmmaker Mode and 984 nits in Standard Mode, each on a 10% window, on its 2025 review sample. Those are test results under specific picture modes and window conditions, not a promise of sustained full-screen brightness.

HDR formats and picture modes
TechRadar reports support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, as well as Filmmaker Mode. TCL Australia’s specification sheet for the 55C6K lists HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ. Since those pages describe different regional variants, confirm the formats and modes listed for the model sold in your market.
Dark scenes, uniformity and viewing angle
Local dimming helps control the backlight in a Mini LED television, but a limited zone count can leave visible artefacts around bright objects or across dark areas. AVForums observed blooming, dirty-screen effect (DSE) and clouding in dim surroundings on its review sample, with the issues more apparent off-axis. Reviewer Phil Hinton wrote: “In dim surroundings, there are a few more issues with blooming, DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) and clouding due to the lower zone count on the 55-inch we are reviewing, especially if watching off-axis.” These are observations of one review sample, not evidence that every unit will show the same degree of artefacts.

TechRadar also noted that some textures and colours can look flat and that contrast could be better. If you mainly watch films in a dark room or sit well to the side of the screen, those limitations are more relevant than the bright-room strengths.

Gaming is one of the set’s clearest strengths. TechRadar reports 4K at 144 Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR) with AMD FreeSync Premium, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Dolby Vision gaming. TCL UK also lists a native 144 Hz refresh rate. Together, these features make the C6K a compelling option for players who want a high-refresh-rate 4K TV without moving to a higher-priced model.

For a console or PC setup, check the exact regional specification and connect the gaming device to an HDMI input that supports the needed features. TCL Australia lists four HDMI 2.1 inputs and eARC on its 55C6K sheet; port details should not automatically be assumed for every regional version.
How are the built-in speakers?
TCL UK lists an ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi system, and TCL Australia’s sheet also specifies 2.1-channel Onkyo audio. Even so, TechRadar says built-in sound is not the television’s best feature. If fuller or more powerful audio is important, consider a separate soundbar; the Australian specification sheet lists HDMI eARC, but no particular soundbar has been evaluated here.

How does it compare with the TCL C7K and other alternatives?
TechRadar describes the C7K as brighter and better equipped for built-in sound, while the C6K is the lower-cost option in that comparison. The C6K’s case is strongest when its gaming features and price matter more than improved brightness, sound or dark-room performance. TechRadar also compared it with Amazon’s Fire TV Omni Mini-LED and Hisense’s U7N; choose among them by checking same-size prices on the same date, gaming support, dimming performance in bright and dark rooms, viewing-angle behaviour, HDR formats and speaker performance. Review prices are historical and do not provide a reliable current comparison.
What did reviewers say about price?
The reported figures are historical publication prices, not current offers. TechRadar gave a March 2025 release date, a £799 launch price and a £599 reported price for the 55-inch UK model. AVForums listed a £479 MSRP when it published its review on 25 October 2025 and awarded the TV 7/10. The sources’ figures differ, so treat them as dated snapshots rather than a settled current value. Check a local retailer for today’s price and availability.
Should you buy the TCL 55C6K?
Consider the 55C6K if you want a 55-inch 4K Google TV with a 144 Hz panel, strong gaming support and bright-room performance, and the local price is attractive. Look elsewhere if dark-room uniformity, deep contrast, off-axis viewing or better built-in audio are priorities. Before ordering, confirm that the retailer is selling the regional variant you want and compare its current price with similarly sized alternatives.
