Tata Steel reported provisional India crude steel production of 6.21 million tons in Q2 FY27, up 10% year on year and 8% from Q1 FY27. The company attributed the increase primarily to higher output at its Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar facilities.
How much steel did Tata Steel produce in India in Q2 FY27?
Tata Steel’s October 7, 2026 provisional production and delivery release puts India crude steel production at 6.21 million tons for Q2 FY27. The release compares that with 5.64 million tons in Q2 FY26 and 5.76 million tons in Q1 FY27; the current-quarter and first-half FY27 figures are provisional, while the comparison-period figures are actual.

For the quarter-on-quarter comparison, the Q2 release’s table is the relevant reference: it lists Q1 FY27 production as 5.76 million tons. Tata Steel’s earlier Q1 FY27 release reports another set of Q1 figures for its own period comparison; those do not replace the Q2 announcement’s comparison value.

Tata Steel said higher output at Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar was the primary driver of the increase. Its release does not provide a facility-by-facility production breakdown, so it does not establish how much of the rise came from either site.

How does production compare with deliveries?
Production and deliveries are different operating measures. Tata Steel reported 5.97 million tons of India deliveries in Q2 FY27, up 7% year on year and 15% quarter on quarter. It said an enriched product mix and stable demand across market segments supported deliveries despite seasonal rains.
The company also highlighted roughly 1.1 million tons of Automotive & Special Products deliveries and roughly 2.2 million tons of Branded Products & Retail deliveries in India. These are delivery figures for product groupings, not production totals.

What is included in Tata Steel’s India figure?
Tata Steel says its India production figure includes Tata Steel Standalone and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd on a pro forma basis. The reported result is company-specific; it is not a measure of total Indian steel industry output.
How should the figures be compared across Tata Steel’s regions?
The Q2 release reports different production measures for different geographies: India is crude steel production, the Netherlands is liquid steel production, and Thailand is saleable steel production. They should not be treated as identical measures in a direct country-to-country comparison.

The release reports Q2 FY27 provisional production of 1.52 million tons of liquid steel in the Netherlands and 0.32 million tons of saleable steel in Thailand. It lists deliveries separately: 1.30 million tons in the Netherlands, 0.31 million tons in Thailand, and 0.38 million tons in the UK. These figures describe Tata Steel’s reported operations, not comparable national totals.

The October 7 release is a provisional company update. It establishes Tata Steel’s reported India production, its stated growth rates, and its qualitative explanation for the increase. It does not provide a site-level breakdown or an independently audited estimate in that announcement. The company’s stock-exchange releases page lists the announcement on October 7, 2026.
