Tasker is the Android automation app behind the title: it lets you connect triggers, such as an NFC tag event, with actions. Its appeal is flexibility; the trade-off is that building and troubleshooting routines can take learning. The title-matching article’s author history and examples could not be verified, so this guide focuses on Tasker’s documented capabilities and the limits readers should consider.
What is Tasker?
Tasker is an Android app for creating routines that respond to events or conditions. Rather than relying on a fixed set of presets, you configure a trigger and the action or actions that should follow. That flexibility can support varied workflows, but it also means the setup is less straightforward than choosing a ready-made automation.
Tasker’s official Google Play listing highlights features including Logcat, Java Code actions, Shizuku support, offline sunrise and sunset information, notification controls, and additional triggers. These are feature descriptions, not guarantees that every action will work on every phone: Android version, permissions, and device-specific behavior can affect availability.
What can you automate with Tasker?
The practical starting point is to identify an event you can detect and an action your phone permits. Tasker’s change log documents NFC Tag events and actions, Quick Setting Tile changes, and 5G state support, among other capabilities. It also records compatibility changes over time, which is a reminder that features can be tied to particular Android releases.
#1 Best Overall
- NETWORK COMPATIBILITY — Unlocked for T-Mobile and AT&T networks, including T-Mobile Prepaid, Metro by T-Mobile, Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, AT&T Prepaid, and Cricket Wireless. Not compatible with Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, Visible, or Spectrum Mobile. Carrier IMEI acceptance, VoLTE, APN settings, and features vary; confirm compatibility before purchase.
- FULL ANDROID 15 GO + GOOGLE PLAY — Download compatible apps from Google Play for messaging, maps, streaming, social media, email, and more. App availability, performance, and requirements vary.
- LARGE 6.745-INCH HD+ DISPLAY — The 720 × 1600 IPS display gives you more room for video, browsing, maps, messages, and everyday apps.
- EVERYDAY PERFORMANCE AND EXPANDABLE STORAGE — Powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core UNISOC 9863A processor with 3GB RAM plus 3GB extended memory and 32GB internal storage. Add up to 128GB with a compatible microSD card.
- 8MP CAMERAS + REMOVABLE 4,000mAh BATTERY — Use the 8MP front and rear cameras for photos and video calls. Includes the handset, removable battery, wall charger, USB-C cable, protective case, screen protector, and user manual.
- NFC-triggered routines: Tasker documents NFC Tag events and actions. A programmable NFC tag can be an optional physical trigger, but check that your phone supports NFC and that the tag is compatible; no particular tag model is established as universally compatible.
- Quick Settings: Tasker’s change log includes Quick Setting Tile changes, which may be useful when you want a routine associated with a tile.
- Advanced or diagnostic workflows: The Play listing highlights Logcat and Java Code actions. These are more specialized capabilities and are not necessary for a basic trigger-and-action routine.
Before building a routine, verify that its intended trigger and action are documented for your Android version and can be granted the permissions they need. Android’s developer documentation describes version-specific APIs and behavior; Tasker’s change log is the more direct place to check the app’s recorded feature and compatibility changes.
Is Tasker hard to learn?
Tasker is best suited to people willing to experiment with configuration and troubleshooting. Google Play reviews include users describing both extensive utility and a learning effort; those are individual opinions, not controlled evidence or a measure of how long a new user will need.

Keep a first routine narrow: choose one event, one expected result, and only the permissions required for that use. Test whether the trigger fires, then whether the action succeeds. If either part fails, check the Android version, the relevant permission, and device behavior before adding more steps. This makes it easier to tell whether a problem is in the trigger, the action, or platform compatibility.

Some Tasker functionality uses sensitive access. Its Google Play listing says System Lock uses device administrator permission and that some features use an accessibility service. These permissions should be evaluated against the specific routine you want, rather than enabled automatically. If a requested permission does not appear necessary for your chosen task, check Tasker’s documentation and the Android permission prompt before proceeding.

Can Tasker use NFC tags?
Yes. Tasker’s change log documents NFC Tag events and actions, making a tag a possible trigger for a routine. NFC tags are optional accessories, not a general requirement for using Tasker. Confirm that NFC is available on your phone and verify tag compatibility before purchasing; the documented feature does not establish compatibility with every phone or tag.
What the “12 years later” claim does—and doesn’t—establish
The title-matching Yahoo Tech result identifies Tasker, but the article could not be opened directly. The author’s claimed usage history, specific examples, and the basis for the twelve-year timeframe therefore remain unverified here. The app’s current listing and change log establish present and documented capabilities; they do not independently confirm a particular person’s long-term experience.

How to decide whether Tasker fits
Tasker is worth considering if you want configurable Android automations and are prepared to learn how triggers, actions, permissions, and compatibility fit together. If you want a quick, preset workflow with minimal setup, the learning curve may be a poor match. A fair comparison with another automation app should examine trigger and action breadth, ease of building and debugging, Android and manufacturer compatibility, permission requirements, and whether an add-on or physical trigger is needed. The evidence here does not support a feature-by-feature claim that Tasker is better than a particular alternative.
