India’s Tarang Shakti 2026 is scheduled for Jodhpur from 26 September to 12 October, and India’s Ministry of Defence lists both the French Rafale and US F-35 Lightning II among the foreign aircraft taking part. But the official announcement does not identify the Indian aircraft operating alongside them, and it does not confirm that a Tejas, Rafale, F-35 and Russian-made Sukhoi flew together in one formation. That specific visual claim needs the original video and its caption to verify.
What is confirmed about the aircraft at Tarang Shakti 2026?
The Indian Ministry of Defence’s 27 September 2026 announcement says foreign contingents will operate alongside the Indian Air Force (IAF) at Air Force Station Jodhpur. Its list of foreign aircraft includes the F-35 Lightning II and Rafale, as well as the F-16, A400M, MRTT, C-130, C-130J and KC-30A. The release does not name the IAF aircraft types in that passage. This establishes that the exercise includes Rafale and F-35 aircraft, but it is not evidence that those jets flew in the same formation as a Tejas or a Sukhoi. An exercise can involve aircraft operating alongside one another without every type appearing together in a single flight or clip.

The 2026 announcement names Australia, the United States, the UAE, France, Germany, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as foreign participants. It describes the event as a setting for joint training, operational exchange and interoperability. It does not provide an overall aircraft total.

Why the video’s formation claim remains unverified
The headline claim is more specific than the official record: it identifies four aircraft families and says they flew together. The reviewed official sources establish neither the identity of every aircraft in a particular video nor that all four were in one formation. Confirming that requires the original footage and its accompanying caption, including the date and location. Without those details, the responsible conclusion is that Rafale and F-35 participation in Tarang Shakti 2026 is confirmed, while the four-aircraft formation is not.
Tarang Shakti 2024 was a separate edition
Details from the 2024 exercise should not be treated as a participant list or aircraft record for 2026. India’s Ministry of Defence annual report describes Tarang Shakti 2024 as a two-phase exercise:

The report also says 19 foreign air force contingents participated as observers in 2024. Those observer contingents are not an aircraft count. Ministry of Defence, Annual Report 2024–25.

A documented RAF detachment in 2024
The UK government reported that the RAF detachment at Sulur in 2024 comprised 130 personnel, six Eurofighter Typhoons, two A330 Voyager air-to-air refuellers and one A400M transport aircraft. These are figures for the British detachment, not the total strength of Tarang Shakti. UK government report on the RAF detachment.

Do not confuse Tarang Shakti with Vayu Shakti
A figure of 121 aircraft sometimes associated with Indian air-force coverage belongs to Vayu Shakti-24, a separate event at Pokhran. It is not a Tarang Shakti aircraft total, and it should not be used to describe either the 2024 or 2026 Tarang Shakti editions. Press Information Bureau release on Vayu Shakti-24.
