TAPMAD TV launched in Karachi in late January 2017 as a mobile app for live television and on-demand video. The service has since evolved into tapmad, an OTT streaming platform that currently promotes entertainment and live sports. Its old launch features and channel counts should not be mistaken for today’s service details.
When did TAPMAD TV launch in Pakistan?
TAPMAD TV launched in Karachi in late January 2017. Dawn reported on 1 February 2017 that it had launched the previous week at Alliance Française in Karachi. Daily Times reported that the free Android and iOS application launched on Thursday, 26 January 2017. The accounts agree on the city and general timing; the exact date is specifically given by Daily Times.
What was the launch-era app?
At launch, TAPMAD TV was presented as a mobile television and video-on-demand app. Contemporary coverage described live channels alongside films, shows, documentaries, and other programming. Dawn also reported an HDTV box as a viewing option.

Launch reports differ on the number of channels: Daily Times said more than 100, while TechJuice described more than 140. Those are conflicting historical figures, not a reliable count of either the original channel lineup or the current service.

Dawn quoted Yassir Pasha, TapMad TV’s CEO at the time, describing recording and catch-up: “The app also works as a DVR, and content can be recorded and downloaded to be watched within seven days”. This was a launch-era description; it does not establish that the same recording or seven-day viewing features are available now.

2026 World Cup announcement
In a 9 June 2026 announcement, Tapmad described free, ad-supported streams and premium subscriptions in Pakistan for that World Cup. It said premium viewers would get ad-free UHD viewing with 50+ FPS, and that multi-stream split-screen was available on Android TV apps. Those statements apply to the event and access options covered by that announcement; they should not be read as universal plan specifications.
Pakistan domestic cricket, 2026–27
In August 2026, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced streaming rights for Tapmad and Tamasha for more than 250 men’s and women’s domestic matches in Pakistan during the 2026–27 season. The named competitions include the National Champions Cup, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, President’s Trophy, National T20 Cup, age-group tournaments, and women’s tournaments. This is a Pakistan-specific rights announcement for that season, not a guarantee of access in other territories or future seasons.

Can you watch Tapmad on a TV?
Tapmad has identified Android TV support in an event announcement, and a 2021 PCB release listed Tapmad TV in iOS, Android, Samsung TV, and Android TV stores. The older release also described PSL 6 rights in Australia, MENA, and the rest of the world as defined in that announcement. It is historical evidence of past device distribution and territorial rights, not proof that every platform or territory remains supported today.
The 2026 World Cup announcement specifically described split-screen on Android TV apps. For current TV viewing, check whether the app is listed for your television or streaming device, and confirm that the event is available in your location. Tapmad’s advertising page also names Chromecast, but casting support and compatibility depend on the current app and devices.

- Access type: Verify whether the stream is free with ads or requires a subscription. The World Cup announcement’s premium and free options were event-specific.

Current subscription prices and detailed plan terms are not established here. Tapmad’s advertising page also displays audience and session-duration figures without a visible measurement period, so they should not be treated as current, independently verified usage statistics.
