Tape is positioned on Product Hunt as a tool for interactive, threaded async video—not as a general-purpose live-meeting service. The most relevant alternatives depend on whether you need to record and share videos, collaborate around screen captures, hold live calls, or bring several communication formats into one workspace. Product Hunt’s listings offer a starting map, but they do not establish current availability, pricing, or feature parity.
What Tape is—and what the available evidence does not establish
Product Hunt describes Tape as “Cut down on meetings by 40% – Interactive async video for work” and its launch entry says “Replace video calls with threaded video messaging.” Product Hunt’s product information says Tape launched in 2022, while a Tape launch listing is dated February 23, 2023. Those are Product Hunt dates and descriptions; they do not independently confirm that Tape is operating today. Product Hunt’s Tape listing shows a 5.0 rating from five reviews, a small sample that should not be treated as a broad measure of product quality.
The listing also claims that productivity increases by over 70% when meetings are reduced by 40%. It does not name an original research organization, year, or methodology for that figure, so it is not independently established by the cited listing. Likewise, a user review attributed to Daun says Tape could be started without installing anything, but the page gives no reviewer role; that is a user account, not a verified specification. The available Product Hunt material does not establish Tape’s current operation, plans, prices, security practices, integrations, or exact feature set.
Which Tape alternatives fit your communication need?
| Need | Products to investigate | What Product Hunt describes |
|---|---|---|
| Record and share async video | Tape, Loom, Weet | Tape is described as interactive async video and threaded video messaging; Loom as a way to record and share videos; Weet as async video communication for remote teams. Source |
| Async collaboration around screen capture or web content | Bubbles, Beep!, Zight | Bubbles is categorized under team collaboration and screen recording; Beep! is described as a way to share feedback on web content; Zight as visual messaging. Source |
| Live calls | Whereby, Zoom | Product Hunt frames these as options for reliable live calls and describes Whereby as browser-native. Source |
| A broader collaboration space | Campsite, Gather Town, Cosmos Video, Remotion | Campsite is framed around posts, calls, docs, and chat; Gather Town around playful collaboration. Product Hunt also lists virtual-office or remote-team categories for some products. Source Source |
| Threaded async communication | ZipMessage | Product Hunt’s alternatives summary identifies it for async threads. Source |
How to choose between the alternatives
Decide whether the exchange should be async or live
If people need to respond on their own schedules, start with async video or threaded communication options such as Tape, Loom, Weet, or ZipMessage. If the conversation depends on immediate back-and-forth, Product Hunt points to Whereby and Zoom as live-call options. A tool’s category is only a first filter; confirm its current capabilities before adopting it.

Match the tool to what you need to capture
For a recorded explanation or walkthrough, compare products described as recording and sharing video. If the goal is to comment on a webpage or coordinate around a screen capture, investigate the options Product Hunt categorizes for web feedback, screen recording, or visual messaging. The listing descriptions do not establish that these products capture content in the same way or support equivalent workflows.
Check the capture workflow and workspace scope
Confirm whether recording happens in a browser, through an extension, or in a desktop app, and whether that workflow fits your team’s devices and permissions. Then ask whether you need a focused video or messaging tool, or a wider workspace that also includes posts, calls, documents, or chat. Product Hunt’s descriptions suggest these as useful comparison dimensions, but do not provide a current, verified feature-by-feature comparison or equivalent pricing.

Will recordings replace meeting notes?
A useful question for a team is: “How is your team actually using recordings beyond meeting notes?” Async recordings can serve as explanations, walkthroughs, or feedback only if recipients can find the relevant context and know what response is expected. Before switching from calls, agree on when a recording is appropriate, where it belongs, and how teammates should respond. The Product Hunt descriptions establish product positioning, not evidence that any listed tool will reduce meetings or improve productivity by a particular amount.
