Taoglas’ TFX Invisible Antennas are transparent, adhesive-backed films designed to place a cellular, Wi-Fi, or GNSS antenna on a nonmetal surface such as glass, plastic, or a display. The range gives device makers another way to hide an antenna when an exposed aerial would detract from a product’s appearance. Taoglas has also broadened its stated component portfolio beyond antennas to include RF cable assemblies, connectors, audio modules, and Ethernet magnetics.
What is a Taoglas TFX Invisible Antenna?
A TFX antenna is a thin, transparent film with an adhesive backing. It attaches to a suitable nonmetal surface and connects to the device’s radio hardware through a feed and connector. The approach is intended for products where an antenna needs to be less visible than a conventional external antenna.
Taoglas announced three models in 2023: the TFX125 for GNSS, the TFX62 for cellular, and the TFX257 for Wi-Fi. Its stated example applications include transportation, electric-vehicle charging, parking infrastructure, digital signage, point-of-sale kiosks, smart buildings, and medical devices. These are manufacturer-proposed use cases, not independent demonstrations that a particular installation will meet its performance requirements. Taoglas’ launch announcement describes the original configurations as using FAKRA connectors.

|---|---|---|---|
| TFX125.A | GNSS | L1, L2, L5, L6, and L-band | FAKRA Code C |
| TFX62.A | Cellular | 600–6000 MHz; the product page also lists cellular and NTN application categories | FAKRA Code D |
| TFX257.A | Wi-Fi | Through 7.125 GHz | FAKRA Code I |
These details come from Taoglas’ respective TFX125, TFX62, and TFX257 product pages. Confirm the required bands, connector, and variant in the datasheet for the exact part being sourced; connector and other specifications can differ between variants.
How do the FAKRA and SMA versions differ?
The original announcement and A-model product pages identify FAKRA configurations. In 2025, Taoglas announced SMA-compatible models TFX125.B, TFX62.C, and TFX257.B. The company presents SMA as an option for broader IoT, research, and commercial deployments, while noting FAKRA’s prevalence in automotive systems. That is a connector-selection distinction, not evidence that one connector guarantees better radio performance. Taoglas’ SMA-variant announcement lists the new suffixes; consult the individual datasheet before treating an A-model specification as applicable to a B- or C-model.

Where can you install a transparent antenna?
Taoglas describes the films for glass, plastic, screens, and other nonmetal surfaces. Because the film is transparent, the mounting surface is part of the visible product: dust or debris trapped beneath it may be conspicuous. The product pages say antenna performance depends on the environment and advise positioning the antenna at least 20 mm from metal where possible. A nearby chassis, frame, or other metal can affect the installed result, so the product page’s nominal coverage alone does not establish how a finished device will perform.

- Choose the location: Identify a clean nonmetal area with room for the film, and keep it at least 20 mm from metal where possible, following Taoglas’ guidance.
- Prepare the surface: Clean it carefully before applying the adhesive-backed film so visible debris is not trapped underneath.
- Protect the feed: Treat the antenna feed as a connection, not a support point. If the housing needs support, Taoglas suggests supporting the connector body separately.
- Check the finished installation: Confirm the exact antenna variant, connector, and datasheet requirements for the device’s bands and mounting environment.
The Wi-Fi product page specifically warns that a load above 0.5 kg on the feed can damage the antenna or disconnect it. This limit is a handling warning for that product page, not a general load rating for the other TFX models. See the TFX257 installation information, alongside the TFX125 and TFX62 pages.

What does Taoglas’ wider product expansion include?
The invisible antennas sit within a much broader component lineup. In a Microwave Journal interview, Taoglas co-founder and CEO Dermot O’Shea said the company offered “over 2,000 SKUs,” spanning embedded and external antennas, RF cable assemblies, connectors, audio modules, and Ethernet magnetics. He also said Taoglas launched over 300 products in 2024, including the Inception “patch-in-a-patch” GNSS antenna and Invisible Antennas. These are figures attributed to O’Shea in the interview, not independently audited counts. Read the Microwave Journal interview.
The expansion matters to engineers evaluating Taoglas as a component supplier: the company describes offerings for several parts of a connected system, from antennas and their RF connections to audio and Ethernet magnetics. The cited category information does not provide enough detail to compare individual cable assemblies or magnetics, so it does not establish that any particular part is suitable for a specific design. A distributor resource page lists Taoglas categories and references a Cable Assemblies Product Guide and Magnetics Product Overview, but not detailed product specifications. Symmetry Electronics’ Taoglas resources can help locate those category materials.
