Tangkwa Journal is presented as a personal AI-diary project made for a friend in ENT training, but its features, authorship, and use have not been independently documented in the public sources available for this article. That distinction matters: there is useful context about how AI diaries can work and what to check before sharing sensitive writing, but it cannot establish what Tangkwa itself does.

What is Tangkwa Journal?

The title describes Tangkwa Journal as a “soft” AI diary built for a friend in ENT training. No public app listing, project page, article, or other independent source located for this article identifies that specific project. The description therefore comes from the title, not from a verified product record.

That leaves key details unconfirmed: what “soft” means in its design, whether the friend used it, which features it has, what AI system it uses, and how it handles entries. “ENT” commonly refers to ear, nose, and throat medicine, but the specific training setting is not established here. It would be misleading to fill those gaps with features from another journaling app.

How AI diary apps can differ

Two store listings illustrate different approaches; neither describes Tangkwa Journal, and neither is an independent evaluation of the claims made by its developer.

Example Approach described by its listing What that establishes
Haru Diary Its Apple App Store listing describes talking with an AI character and shaping the conversation into a diary entry. It lists iPhone and iPad compatibility, identifies ROH JOOHOON as developer, and shows in-app purchases. These are statements on the store page. Apple says the privacy information is developer-provided and not verified by Apple; the listing includes categories the developer indicates may be collected or linked to the user. This is not an independent privacy audit. Apple App Store listing
Tinta Its Google Play listing describes offline journaling and on-device AI; it says the first-use model download is about 1 GB. These are developer claims, not independently tested performance or privacy guarantees. The listing cautions that its data-safety disclosures may vary by use, region, and age. Google Play listing

These examples show why the label “AI diary” does not tell a reader where writing is processed or stored. They do not support a ranking, or a claim that either app is the right alternative for a particular person.

What to check before writing sensitive material in an AI diary

A privacy label alone is not enough to explain what happens to a diary entry. A developer-authored privacy checklist puts the practical question this way: “Who can read it? Not in theory — in practice.” The author has a product interest, so treat the line as a useful prompt rather than an authoritative legal or technical standard. The Second Brain privacy article

  • Retention and training: How long are entries and prompts kept, and are they used to train or improve models?
  • Account and sync: Does the app require an account? Is writing synchronized across devices, and how is that synchronization protected?
  • Control: Can users export entries and delete them, including copies held by service providers?
  • Practical fit: Which devices are supported, are accessibility needs met, and what costs or limits apply?

For Tangkwa Journal, the answers to these questions are not established by the available public information. Do not assume that a gentle tone, an on-device interface, or a diary format means entries remain private.

What journaling research can—and cannot—say about trainees

A 2023 arXiv paper describes MindfulDiary, a mobile journaling research project that uses a large language model to help psychiatric patients document daily experiences through conversation. It is a different project and population; its abstract does not establish benefits for ENT trainees or evaluate Tangkwa Journal. MindfulDiary on arXiv

What can responsibly be said about the project

The project’s name and its connection to a friend in ENT training are part of the title’s account. The available public sources do not independently verify the app’s existence or tell readers what it does. Until concrete details are available, Tangkwa Journal is best understood as a personal project description—not a product recommendation or a documented case study.
