Taiwan received its first two newly built US-made F-16V Block 70 fighter jets on October 2, 2026. They arrived at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung, marking the first delivery in a long-delayed procurement whose reported total differs by source.
When did Taiwan receive its first F-16V fighter jets?
The first two aircraft arrived at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung on Friday, October 2, 2026, according to the Associated Press and Focus Taiwan/CNA. They are newly built Block 70 jets, not simply aircraft from Taiwan’s existing fleet upgraded to an F-16V configuration.
How many F-16Vs did Taiwan order?
The reports do not agree on the total. The Associated Press described the arrival as the first two of 65 aircraft, with 63 still to be delivered. Focus Taiwan/CNA reported a purchase of 66 new Block 70 aircraft. The available reports do not resolve the difference, so neither total should be treated as definitive.

Why were the deliveries delayed?
The delay has been attributed to more than one factor. In its October 2 report, the Associated Press cited production and supply-chain issues. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense separately said the configuration designed specifically for Taiwan required flight testing and calibration, making the schedule difficult to determine precisely. These accounts describe separate contributing explanations; the available reporting does not establish a single definitive cause.
In March 2026, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said Vice Minister Hsu Szu-chien had visited the South Carolina production line and witnessed completion of the first aircraft’s acceptance check flight. At that point, delivery flights were expected to begin during 2026. The October 2 arrival was the first reported delivery.

When will the rest of the jets arrive?
A verified timetable for the remaining aircraft has not been reported in the sources available here. The first two arrivals confirm that deliveries have begun, but they do not establish when the other aircraft will reach Taiwan or whether deliveries will follow a particular pace.
