Tabwalk is a free, self-hosted accessibility monitor that scans site pages, groups repeated automated findings, and tracks changes over time. Its “66 errors into 13 things to fix” example is from the project’s demo shop: 66 failing elements are grouped into 13 unique-problem rows. That is a demonstration of how grouping works—not a result to expect from every website.
For teams asking, “where do our sites actually stand, and is it getting better or worse?”, Tabwalk offers a way to collect recurring evidence. It does not replace human accessibility review or establish legal compliance.
What Tabwalk does
Tabwalk discovers pages from a site’s sitemap.xml or sitemap_index.xml when available; otherwise, it follows links from the home page. It opens pages in headless Chromium using Playwright and runs axe-core checks against WCAG 2.2 A/AA rules. The project presents best-practice rules separately as recommendations.

- Give Fingers a Break – Allows your fingers to have a break and test on the thenar area of your palm, which matches the fingers' blood sugar levels, in both steady and dynamic blood flow states for real-time readings.
- No Custom Lancets Required - We recommend our Butterfly Touch Lancets. You can also use widely available square-shaft lancets and any test strips or meter of your choice with our lancing device! Please note: meter and test strips not included. This product includes: lancing device, 6 contact tips, nozzle, pouch, contact card, sticker sheet, instructions, 10 butterfly touch lancets.
Why the demo shows 13 rows instead of 66 errors
Accessibility scanners may flag many elements for the same underlying issue. Tabwalk fingerprints findings using the accessibility rule and normalized element markup, then groups repeated instances into a row with a page count. For example, empty links repeated across product cards can be treated as one recurring problem rather than a long list of near-identical entries.
In the project’s demo shop, Artemy Andruschak’s September 29, 2026 article reports 66 failing elements grouped into 13 rows. The Tabwalk repository README, accessed October 7, 2026, describes the demo as 13 unique problems on 66 elements. These figures explain the demo’s grouping behavior; they are not an independent benchmark or a typical customer result.

How Tabwalk is deployed and used
The repository documents a Docker Compose deployment with Postgres, an API, a worker, and a web interface. Postgres and pg-boss handle the scan queue and scheduling. Since repository instructions can change, consult the current README for setup steps and version-specific requirements rather than relying on a fixed installation recipe.
For development workflows, the project also documents a GitHub Action that can run checks on pushes or pull requests. Its documented default limit is 50 pages, and a configured severity threshold determines whether the action fails. That cap is an Action default, not a statement that all Tabwalk scans are limited to 50 pages.

What automated results can—and cannot—tell you
Automated rules can identify many code and content patterns, but they cannot judge every accessibility barrier. The project notes that axe-core can mark a finding “incomplete” when it cannot decide automatically—for example, when evaluating contrast over a background image. Tabwalk retains such findings as items that “need a human.”
The project README puts the limitation plainly: “Tabwalk collects evidence. It is not a legal opinion and it does not make your site compliant. Automated checks catch less than half of WCAG problems; the rest needs a human. We show you which parts those are.” Treat scan results as input to remediation and review, not as a compliance certificate or a complete audit.

Fit the tool to your monitoring needs
Tabwalk is aimed at teams that want to run monitoring themselves and see recurring automated findings across a site. Its documented combination of site discovery, scheduled scans, historical comparison, and CI checks can support ongoing work rather than a one-time spot check.

- Human review: Automated scans do not resolve every issue; plan for people to assess incomplete findings and barriers that automation cannot detect.
- CI behavior: If you want checks on pushes or pull requests, confirm the Action’s current page cap and configure a severity threshold that matches your release policy.
- Access and reporting: The source-time documentation describes no login support, no scanning of pages behind a login, and no report export. The README also lists lack of authentication and single-organization operation as MVP gaps. Verify the current project documentation if these are requirements.
The project describes a monitor that collects evidence; it does not change the site or provide an overlay or widget. If a monitoring workflow depends on protected pages, exported reports, or other capabilities, verify their current availability before choosing Tabwalk.
